Previously on Netflix’s original series Pulse, Dr. Tom Cole (Jack Bannon) and Nia Washington (Ash Santos) began to know each other more personally, kissing after he told her about his childhood. Danielle (Willa Fitzgerald) struggled to find balance with colleagues as the nurses weren’t used to her as the new chief. Dr. Lucy Broussard (Charlayne Woodard) watched Danielle for the day, giving her advice and showing her new skills. Danielle and Dr. Sam Elijah (Jessie T. Usher) had a heart-to-heart in the breakroom, with him letting her know he’ll always be there for her. After his long shift, Xander (Colin Woodell) left the hospital.
The episode begins with Danielle at the hospital cafeteria with her sister, Dr. Harper Simms (Jessy Yates). The two share awkwardness; in the previous episode, Danielle yelled at her sister for checking in on her. Danielle notices and apologizes for her actions, and Harper accepts her apology. Danielle gets a text, heading to new patients from a car crash.
Tom and Sam meet her in the hallway, and Sam oddly brushes Danielle off, acting strange and distant toward her. Their new patients, one male and one female, get wheeled in.
Harper and Sam begin to do a procedure on the male patient. Harper finds a burn on his face, which is not normal. During the accident, there was a fire, but it sounded like from the EMT the fire only impacted the female.
The patients are married, but not to each other. Luis (Arturo Del Puerto) does his research and shows the four of them the patients’ social media pages.
Meanwhile, Dr. Sophie Chan (Chelsea Muirhead) introduces herself to her new patient, a woman with a ruptured triple-A. Nurse Gabriel Moreno (Santiago Segura) and Camila Perez (Daniela Nieves) assist her. Gabriel tells Sophie that the patient isn’t able to have surgery, so she’s more likely to die. She calls the patient’s daughter to let her know the news.
Danielle checks on her patient, Christina, who’s now resting from her procedure. The other patient’s name is Mateo. She tells Danielle she doesn’t want to see him, but wants to see her husband.
Danielle has a flashback from ten months ago of her and Xander. He tries to kiss her, but she says they should report their relationship to HR. He thinks they should clarify their relationship before they tell HR, so that they can have a clear understanding of what’s going on.

Back in the present, Luis asks Harper if he can show her a new patient, a child named Ella who broke her arm. Harper tries to calm her down as she’s crying. Ella becomes more comfortable as her mother distracts her. Harper will have to give her some sedation medication and pull her arm to put it back in place.
An officer flirts with Danielle after getting blood work from Christina to make sure there’s no alcohol in her system. She finds him bleeding, so she stitches him up.
After using the bathroom, Harper goes back to Ella and her parents. The parents complain and stop Sam, who’s walking by, and ask if he can do it instead of Harper. Sam stands up for her and tells them that she’s capable of doing it. After she puts the girl’s arm back in place, the dad says some mean words to her.
Christina’s husband comes to the hospital, and she codes. Luis, Danielle, and Harper rush to her bedside. Harper’s able to bring her back, using a pacer wire.
Next, we see Sam in the breakroom, and Danielle comes in. Danielle feels like he’s not standing up for her, but he tells her he’s allowed to have his own opinion and feelings about everything that’s been going on. He asks her why she never told him she wanted to be chief, but she says it didn’t matter. Sam thinks that she slept with Xander to become the chief.
Sophie’s patient flatlines, and she begins compressions, trying to get a heartbeat. That doesn’t happen, so they shock her, but nothing works. The patient dies, and Sophie feels defeated. Camila comes back and tells her that the patient’s daughter is there. Sophie tells her the news. Camila watches from afar and gets emotional when the daughter breaks down crying.
Their shift is officially over, and everyone begins to leave. They have a party tonight, but Danielle decides not to go. She has a flashback of her and Xander, and changes her mind, leaving to meet with the officer. She tells him she’s not looking for a relationship, which he understands. The two of them begin to dance.
Xander turns a woman down at the party, only thinking about Danielle. He drives to Danielle’s house and finds her with the officer outside. He drives off.
Overall, this was a really good episode. It’s nice to see Sophie and Camila back on good terms, Camila helping out however she can. There’s a lot of tension between Danielle and Sam, which only increases when he tells her how he truly feels about her and Xander’s relationship. We saw how close Sam and Harper are getting. Is there something more than a friendship going on between the two of them?
