Every season of television, even in the era of streaming, must have some type of “filler” episode before the arc of the finale. While this episode still very much develops the characters, it’s all very expository. Explosions are surely to come in future episodes.
Be warned: spoilers ahead.
The episode begins with Joanne and Noah discussing Morgan and Dr. Andy. At the end of the previous episode, Dr. Andy proposed to Morgan despite their brief relationship. Joanne says that she knows that Morgan doesn’t want to marry Dr. Andy and is only doing it because Dr. Andy is manipulative. Noah talks to Joanne about how excited he is for his first day at Temple Ahava, and the two leave the house. Noah goes to his first day at work, and Joanne goes to shop for wedding dresses with Morgan.

At Temple Ahava, Rabbi Noah and Rabbi Cami welcome Noah by telling him that in their temple, he doesn’t have to wear a kippah. Noah tries it, but ultimately doesn’t feel like he should be in the temple without it. This is where the first of many differences between the Temple Ahava rabbis and Noah begin.
While trying on dresses, Joanne tries to convince her parents that Morgan’s hasty marriage is a bad idea, but neither Lynn nor Henry sees anything wrong with it. Despite Joanne’s attempts to hide this conversation from Morgan, Morgan overhears and considers her points about her engagement. Joanne steals attention at the dress shop by trying on her own wedding dress.
The rabbis at Ahava put Noah to the test by assigning him to lead an after-school session. It’s unlike other lessons Noah’s taught to young Jewish students because this group of students leads the discussion themselves, without Noah intervening or leading the discussion. Noah continues to find more and more differences between him and the less conservative Jewish congregation of Temple Ahava.
Joanne grows increasingly anxious as the fitting continues until Morgan confronts her. Morgan yells at Joanne, accusing her of never supporting her and Dr. Andy and being jealous of their relationship. Their fight continues into their recording session for the new podcast episode, and culminates in Joanne quitting the podcast.

Joanne and Noah reconvene at the end of the day, and both lie about how their days went. Joanne says that she had a good time looking at dresses with Morgan, when in actuality, it ended in them canceling their podcast. Noah says that he had a good first day at Ahava, but in actuality, it ended with him realizing that the temple might be too lax for his liking.
The episode sets up a lot of conflict for future episodes to deal with, like a reconciliation between Joanne and Morgan, Noah and Joanne coming clean to each other about their feelings on conversion and Temple Ahava, and Morgan realizing that Dr. Andy is not right for her. The stakes for these three major conflicts were all raised during this episode, and should come crashing down in a glorious denouement over the final three episodes.
