This episode takes on a refreshing new perspective by placing the characters in a new setting. This is prompted by Amy (Ali Wong) and Paul’s (Young Mazino) friendship growing deeper. Back in episode three, after Amy reveals that she is catfishing Paul, he tells her he finds her more attractive anyway, and then he kisses her. Amy doesn’t pull away even though she is married, which makes this situation even more complicated. Now in episode four, entitled “Just Not All at the Same Time,” Amy gives Paul a ride home and tries her best not to be seen by Danny (Steven Yeun) while dropping him off. Paul tries to set up a date with Amy, but she declines and explains she has to go to Vegas for a business trip. Then, when Danny almost spots Amy and Paul while taking out the trash, Amy sends Paul mixed signals by grabbing him and kissing him to hide her face, then telling him he has to go because she’s married.
Later in the night, as Amy struggles to convince her daughter Junie (Remy Holt) to come to Vegas with her, Danny is up to no good with his bad-news cousin Isaac (David Choe). Danny and Isaac break into a house that is still being built and steal all of the construction tools and gear. They do this so Danny can use it to fix things at his church for free, so he can pocket the loan money he got to fix up the church. Isaac thought of the idea to steal from the house and convinced Danny would be okay, which adds to this narrative of Isaac getting Danny in trouble whenever Danny is desperate. When they leave the house, they put all of the stolen construction tools and gear in the back of Danny’s truck with the plan to leave it there overnight.
This plan would’ve worked except that when Danny and Isaac went to Danny’s house, Paul suggested that they all do shots together. Every time they do a shot, Paul only pretends to take one, which leads to Isaac and Danny passing out drunk and Paul stealing Danny’s truck to visit Amy in Vegas. This is a problem because Paul doesn’t realize he is driving a truck with stolen property, and now Danny and Isaac must track him down and get the truck back. Danny and Isaac furiously head to Vegas while Paul and Amy meet up in her hotel suite. Amy reminds Paul that they can’t do anything physical because she is a married woman, and Paul suggests they do something fun to pass the time.
Amy and Paul get high together, which is something Amy hasn’t done since her daughter was young. They jump on Amy’s bed and eat junk food. Paul shows Amy how to add Skittles to Coca-Cola; he claims he created it even though Danny showed him how to do it when they were little. Amy and Paul sit on the floor and have a heart-to-heart about goals and what it’s like to know broken people. During the scenes with Paul, Amy is the happiest the audience has ever seen her. As her friendship with Paul grows, it becomes more and more apparent that she feels something is lacking in her marriage. She acts more open and optimistic when she spends time with Paul than her husband, Geroge (Joesph Lee).
