Review: ‘Marvel Zombies’ Season 1, Episode 4

After a battle stemming from the twist in the previous episode, we learn just how important the story from the beginning of episode 3 really was, and why our main villain was after it all along. After a rescue, we see some familiar faces, and it’s off to stop the big bad before the world is forever destroyed. The episode struggles with the problem mentioned in the previous review, where it felt like it ended rather abruptly. Especially when compared to the former episodes, where the endings felt more fluid with the rest of the episode. Maybe this means that there will be more episodes in the future, but it’s unlikely, and it could also have ended like that intentionally.

With that said, the episode was still pretty good. And the ending, while it did end abruptly and with a cliffhanger, wasn’t anything that would inherently ruin the episode. Not to mention that it did have a great battle, which once again showcased the unique animation style choices. For example, the explosions in the big fight and the way gore is handled and illustrated (especially with the larger zombies, where the internal organs and body parts are done with the 2-D/3-D elements that make it so unique).

While the show itself was a pretty good watch, it could have gone on for at least a couple more episodes. Not that it has to be a seven-season-long historical event or anything, but it could have at least been 6 or 7 episodes. This way, the events in the show didn’t all have to be accumulated into 4 episodes, which are only about half an hour each. Not only could this have helped with the pacing, but it could also leave more room to include even more Marvel heroes in zombie form. Granted, there were some, and they were cool, but it would have been even cooler if we could have had extra zombies to see how they would have looked.

To summarize, the show was a pretty decent watch. Of course, it wasn’t without some negatives, such as the endings of episodes (which improved a little over time), the animation style looking a little strange in parts, and while the finale was slightly abrupt, it did give that devastating conclusion, a possibility mentioned in the review for episode 3. If the show had had a few more episodes, it might have been even better, but what we got was alright.

Rating 7.8/10

Zach Zucconi: I am a 20-year-old from New Jersey. I graduated with an Associate's of the Arts and am currently in the process of completing my Bachelor's in Communications. I have taken part in the university television station where I was able to act in a show and work behind the scenes. I also have hosted a radio show and have been able to learn the mechanical workings on how the radio shows operate. I have always been interested in different video games growing up and have recently become more interested in movies, film, radio, and screenplay. I have created many characters and have many ideas for different movies, video games, and shows. Besides creating the characters and stories, I believe I would also like to take part in them as well.
