Review: ‘Marvel Zombies’ Season 1, Episode 3

In the second-to-last addition of the Marvel Zombie apocalypse, we get another story about an event, with a powerful foe turned undead. We then continue with the events of the main story, arriving at New Asgard, to gain assistance to end the plague once and for all. While everything seems fine and the Asgardians are having fun, living in peace, it soon becomes clear that not everything is as it seems when an unexpected visitor wreaks havoc.

Once again, the episode improved upon the last two. There was more action and some unexpected twists, along with some predictable narrative points. The ending of this episode was definitely the best so far. It wasn’t rushed, it wasn’t anticlimactic, it has a decent cliffhanger, and honestly, the cliffhanger was a little unexpected. There are, of course, some aspects that were a little off.

For example, while the animation is unique and brings different visuals, there were some parts of the episode where it didn’t quite look right. For example, a distant shot with the group walking through the halls of New Asgard. The way the characters looked from a distance while walking was a little off in a weird way, as if they were plastered in. Not horrible, but definitely noticeable. While the pacing seems to have been fixed a bit, it does seem like there is a lot to cover for a definitive conclusion in the final episode. Hopefully, the final episode doesn’t feel too rushed, as that could take away from the buildup this episode has worked on. An ending like this could honestly mess up the whole show (even if it’s only four episodes).

To sum it up, this episode has improved upon the last two, with better pacing and action. The art style, while odd at times, added a little extra character, especially with the huge backgrounds looking like they were drawn in 2D. It allowed for these unique 2D/3D moments, especially with parts of fight scenes, character abilities, and the devastating events of the previous episode. The show has been alright so far; it’s just a matter of whether the final episode will be a satisfying conclusion, a devastating conclusion, or an anticlimactic, rushed conclusion.

Zach Zucconi: I am a 20-year-old from New Jersey. I graduated with an Associate's of the Arts and am currently in the process of completing my Bachelor's in Communications. I have taken part in the university television station where I was able to act in a show and work behind the scenes. I also have hosted a radio show and have been able to learn the mechanical workings on how the radio shows operate. I have always been interested in different video games growing up and have recently become more interested in movies, film, radio, and screenplay. I have created many characters and have many ideas for different movies, video games, and shows. Besides creating the characters and stories, I believe I would also like to take part in them as well.
