The Paramount+ series Landman has premiered its new season, bringing back its cast members, Billy Bob Thornton, Demi Moore, Michelle Randolph, Jacob Lofland, Ali Larter, and Paulina Chávez. In season one, we watched as Cooper began to live his life separately from his father, wanting to start his own oil business, all while creating a romantic relationship with one of the company’s dead employees’ wives. Tommy and Angela focus on striving as a married couple, but struggle as things begin to take a major and dangerous turn for Tommy’s career. There’s anticipation that this new season will be as dramatic, or more, now that everything’s changed and Tommy is the president of the oil company.
The episode begins with Tommy complaining to someone about how Kellogg’s has been advertising that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but it isn’t, not to Tommy. And Cooper is still living with Ariana.
Since Monty’s death, his wife, Cami, has taken over as the company’s owner, and she’s hosting a luncheon to introduce herself and let people know who she represents. A lot of people don’t like that, but Tommy is her number one supporter. Everyone wants Cami to sell the company. While she’s in the bathroom, some girls come in to gossip and make an offensive comment toward her. The comment gives her confidence, and her speech goes well.
Cooper has a very successful day at his oil rig, reaching 6,200 on the gas unit. After hearing the good news, he rushes back home to tell Ariana. He takes her back to the rig to show her. He calls his father to give him the good news.
Angela takes Aynsley to TCU. Aynsley meets with the dean and has an awkward interaction. She rambles on about cheerleaders and athletes, and the policies on campus. She breaks down from being nervous. Luckily, she gets accepted to attend the college. Now that Aynsley will be going to college at TCU, Angela wants to buy a home for them so that she’s not alone in Fort Worth.
Tommy’s father, T.L., lives at an assisted living facility, and gets the news that his wife has passed.
Cooper goes to his parents’ house for dinner, including Nathan and Dale, who still live there. The drama begins as tension rises between Angela and Tommy. Tommy brings up her mood as they’re eating, and he tells her that he shouldn’t be making a big decision on buying a house while her emotions are high. Everyone runs off and hides as Angela throws a tantrum, throwing plates and creating a disaster in the dining room. The two of them make up when Angela tells him that he needs to be more aware of what he says to her when it comes to her emotions.
After their talk, Tommy gets the call that his mother has passed.
Overall, this was a good episode. There was, of course, chaos in this episode, revolving around Aynsley and her mother, Angela. It’s great to see these characters return, and it will be interesting now that Sam Elliot’s T.L. will be added to the mix. Demi Moore’s return as Cami is intriguing, having to take over power and be in charge. What’s to come in the next episode?
