Review ‘Hazbin Hotel’ Season 1 Episode 7 “Hello Rosie!”

*Spoilers for Hazbin Hotel Season 1 Episode 7*

Episode 7 of Hazbin Hotel picks up right where the last episode ended. This episode opens with Vaggie explaining her and Charlie’s trip to Heaven to the crew. Meanwhile, Charlie is seen upset and crying in her room, this is when Alastor enters the room to talk to Charlie. Alastor tells Charlie she cannot sulk and cry after starting a fight with Heaven. She needs to put a smile on to inspire her people and to make her enemies uneasy. Alastor tells Charlie he has information that might be able to help her, but Charlie has to make a deal with him first. Charlie has to agree to help Alastor with a favor of his choosing at any time, and if she agrees then he will reveal the pivotal information to her. Charlie agrees, so she and Alastor begin to head out of the hotel in search of help. On the way out of the hotel, Charlie explains to Vaggie how Carmilla was able to kill an angel. She suggests Vaggie talk to Carmilla for details.

Alastor and Charlie end up going to Cannibal Town to meet up with Rosie who is the overlord of Cannibal Town. Charlie and Alastor ask Rosie for the help of the cannibal people to fight the angels during the extermination. Rosie agrees but says Charlie needs to talk with the people to convince them to rally behind her and her cause. Charlie uses Alastor’s microphone to sing to the people and explains to the Cannibals how much she needs them to defend their home.

At the same time, Vaggie enters Carmilla’s place in the search for answers. Carmilla refuses to reveal how the angels are killed because she does not want to invite more violence into her home or her people. Carmilla also explains that she knows that Vaggie is an angel. Vaggie and Carmilla begin to fight when Carmilla reveals that angels can be killed with angelic steel, the same steel used to make the angel weapons. Before Vaggie leaves, Carmilla encourages her through song to have a reason to fight, to fight for love. By the end of the song, Vaggie gets her angel wings back. Vaggie and Charlie arrive at the hotel at the same time. They walk inside to find that the whole hotel crew has been fortifying the hotel this whole time to prepare for the extermination.

Episode 7 of Hazbin Hotel continued to build upon the last run of great episodes. This episode continues to build anticipation of the final climax of the show with great writing, stunning visuals, and emotional moments that make the story feel real and grounded even within that fantastical world. The standouts for voice acting were Erika Henningsen as Charlie and also Daphne Rubin-Vega as Carmilla, who truly steals the show in every scene that she is in. Both of their voice acting feels truly emotional and impactful. The audience can hear what the character is feeling just through the voice acting. The visuals are good this episode but nothing specifically stands out. The only complaint is the visual for the cannibal people did not stand out or feel any different from the demons the audience has seen before. The writing is also good, with the songs especially feeling powerful and earned for the characters and the audience.

Despite not being as good as the few prior episodes, episode 7 of Hazbin Hotel continues to build excitement for audiences, preparing them for the upcoming season finale.
