Review ‘Hazbin Hotel’ Season 1 Episode 3 “Scrambled Eggs”

*Spoilers  for Hazbin Hotel Season 1 Episode 3*

Episode 3 of Hazbin Hotel Season 1 starts off with Charlie and Vaggie hanging up a sign to celebrate one week of Sir Pentious staying at the hotel. Right as they are hanging up the sign, Sir Pentious walks by with a new cannon which he has created to use on the other guests of the hotel. He explains that everyone has been nice to him and that is leading him to believe that everyone is lying to him and might be plotting something against him. Vaggie makes Sir Pentious stop making machines or weapons while he is staying at the hotel and to go with that, makes him give up his egg servants since he uses them to do his evil doings. Vaggie asks Alastor to help her get rid of Sir Pentious’ egg servants because she is not able to do it, Alastor agrees.

Charlie suggests that the hotel guests and crews should do some trust exercises so that they can co-live better and trust each other more. She tells Vaggie to lead the exercises since Charlie herself already trusts everyone so she cannot teach people how to trust others.

While the crew does the exercises that Vaggie puts them up to, Alastor takes the eggs to a meeting with the sovereign overlords of Hell. In this meeting, the audience is introduced to some of the most powerful and ancient demons in Hell. During this meeting, they all discuss the extermination that has just occurred. As the demons present discuss the population lost during the extermination, another demon named Velvet walks in. She disregards everyone while she is on a phone call. When the phone call ends she throws an angel’s head onto the table and reveals that it was killed during the last extermination. She continues to  tell everyone that if the angels can be killed, then the demons should stand up and fight the angels when the next extermination comes around. Velvet and Camilla end up getting into an argument that ends the meeting as a whole, as Alastor heads back to the Hotel.

After the trust exercises, the hotel crew arrives back at the hotel. Vaggie feels down about not being able to help Charlie as much as she thinks she should, but Charlie tells her that they can do everything together and things take time, even trust building. Charlie turns around and sees the guests and crew of the hotel finally getting along, proving to Vaggie that her exercises helped bring everyone together like Charlie wanted. Alastor walks through the front door with the eggs, which Vaggie allows Sir Pentious to keep again as she now trusts him to not make machines or weapons with the help of the eggs. The episode ends with Sir Pentious going to sleep with his eggs, as he falls asleep one of the eggs reveals a shocking secret…

This episode is the most visually pleasing of the series so far. The animation is vibrant and unique, with some of the most creative designs of the show thus far with the demons at the meeting. The writing is also the best of the series up to this point, the jokes feel natural and the emotional moments are impactful and real. The few songs that are in this episode are better and feel more powerful especially because of the characters that sing them. Voice acting continues to be great from the whole cast with the standouts being Stephanie Beatriz as Vaggie and again Jeremy Jordan as Alastor.

Hazbin Hotel gets better with this episode, leaning more into the insanity of the world in which the show takes place. The characters begin to grow and change more through this episode as the audience watches along. Another fantastic entry in this series that continues to build excitement for audiences of what’s to come.

Rating: 8/10
