Episode 6 starts with someone riding a motorcycle in Tokyo. We then see Jiro making some rice for the head chef, who tells him to make it again. Before he can, Jiro gets a text and says he has to go.
He then meets up with some Yakuza members, one being his older brother Ichigo. After Ichigo disciplines one of the gang members for insinuating Jiro doesn’t respect him, he pulls Jiro aside to talk with him. After accusing him of having something to hide, Ichigo, Jiro and the others head into a restaurant and kidnap the owner, cut his tongue out, and brutalize him with a bat for buying fish from another source. Jiro then cuts off the guy’s head so the brutal beating stops. Their father comes in angry that they killed the guy without his permission, and tells them to dispose of the body.
After Jiro meets with his girlfriend Miyako (who runs an Italian restaurant there), he heads to his father, where he says that he has to choose being a Yakuza, or a chef, since a war is coming. He then brings up his new girl, saying that if he can find her, their enemies can as well, and that to keep someone safe, they sometimes have to sacrifice what they love.
Jiro then quits his apprentice job at the sushi spot. Before he leaves, the head chef gives him the yanagiba sword made by the great master Yoshimitsu. He then goes and tells Miyako that they can’t see each other anymore, because she won’t be safe with him. Jiro then goes to his father, who tells him that he will be the next Oyabun, (head) of the clan, because his brother doesn’t understand the way of the Yakuza, since he is too wild, and reckless.
After Jiro leaves, Ichigo comes in and confronts his dad, since he heard every word of it. Ichigo then bashes him in the head with a dragon statue. Jiro, who was nearby, runs in to investigate, finding his father beaten on the floor. Ichigo comes out and tries to say Jiro was getting in their father’s ear, before he stabs their father with the knife. The Yakuza men come in, and Ichigo says that Jiro killed their father. Jiro then takes the knife, jumps out of the window, and runs away.
He then calls Miyako to tell her he has a plan for them to get away. The two then meet on a bridge, but Miyako was followed by the clan, who kidnap her and take her away. Jiro then gives chase, but during it, the car holding Miyako blows up. Jiro doesn’t have much time to grieve, because Ichigo starts shooting at Jiro and continues to go after him. Jiro then jumps in the cargo holder of a plane taking off, which ends up arriving in Los Angeles.
Interesting episode. The entire thing was in Japanese, and at the beginning, it had a little disclaimer saying that it was going to be in Japanese, and to put on subtitles if you want. Never saw a disclaimer like that before (also don’t really watch stuff in different languages, so it was interesting to try it). It wasn’t the greatest episode so far, but it was still good, and now we know a little bit about who Jiro is and how he arrived in Los Angeles.
