Review: ‘Futurama’ Season 14, Episode 10 “Final Ending: The Last Conclusion”

The final episode starts with Fry telling everyone about the time he and his brother Yancy went to Manhattan by themselves for the first time, where they sneak into a PG-13 movie called Deathbot 3000. Fry says he couldn’t finish the movie because something happened.

While trying to say what it is, he is interrupted by Professor Farnsworth and his hypothesis as to why humans need to hear the end of stories. Zoidberg walks away saying he doesn’t care about stories because his species doesn’t tell stories, but when he is alone, he sobs, because he does want to care about stories for his coworkers. When Farnsworth starts again, he realizes that Bender seemingly disappeared.

We then see him being tied up to the railroad tracks by the robot mafia, because he crossed them for the last time. We then find out that Fry and Yancy were taken home by the police for sneaking into the movie. Though mostly everyone wants to see the end, Fry reveals that the movie was a flop, and it didn’t even make it to videotape, meaning it’s gone. Leela then reveals that there was a film archive at the cryogenics lab where she used to work.

Later on, Amy tasks Zoidberg with looking after Mandy, so he takes her to a story time so he can learn to care about stories. The story reader is arrested because the train story she was reading was banned, but the event was impactful enough to get the two to agree to go on a train. Instead of buying a ticket, they jump on the top of a moving train. After Bender’s hit is unsuccessful, Hermes’ Manwich dilemma, and Fry and Leela sneaking into the cryogenics lab, we see that Mandy may have messed up her appendix when they jumped onto the train, so Zoidberg has to perform surgery on her in one of the boxcars.

We then cut back to the cryogenics lab, where Leela and Fry find the movie. Roberto is accidentally released from his cryogenic prison, and takes a liking to the movie, so he tries to steal it from them. We then cut back to 1999, where Fry tells a story at Yancy’s wedding, saying that he took the fall for Yancy so he could go to Julie’s birthday party, where they ended up sort of taking a liking each other.

After the robot mafia uses some principle to get the next train to hit Bender (which winds up causing the train to split into two, with one going into an abandoned train tunnel). We then see how all the different stories end (such as Mandy’s surgery being a success, Hermes picking the right Manwich, and Farnsworth’s lesson about hearing the end of stories).

After getting some closure from these stories, Fry and Leela wind up smashing through the window of the cryogenics lab, and right through an open manhole all the way down to Old New York. The film unreels and they desperately climb in place while the train starts coming through the abandoned train tunnel. These chain of events allow the end of the film to play. After they watch it and have a moment, Fry and Leela land on the ground, and just as the train is about to hit them, it stops, and we see that Bender managed to hit it off with the train, which was sentient. The three then ride off, but Bender stumbles and falls off after being hit by the film case, and gets run into pieces by the train. He, however, winds up making a full recovery.

This episode was pretty interesting and different. The whole point was that there were all these different stories that had different endings, and they teased you until the end to see the endings. It felt like it was a bit better than the last two episodes. The only problem is that it could be a little confusing, and the pacing feels bizarre, until you realize what they are doing. This season as a whole was pretty decent. The 8th and 9th episodes may have been a little weaker than some of the others, but they weren’t bad. Overall, the 14th season was worth watching (don’t remember if it was better than the last season though).

I have taken part in the university television station where I was able to act in a show and work behind the scenes. I also have hosted a radio show and have been able to learn the mechanical workings on how the radio shows operate. I have always been interested in different video games growing up and have recently become more interested in movies, film, radio, and screenplay. I have created many characters and have many ideas for different movies, video games, and shows. Besides creating the characters and stories, I believe I would also like to take part in them as well.
