Once again at Kif and Amy’s place, Kif and Amy are telling Axel to turn his video game down, when a meteorite suddenly crashes to earth, into the apartment below them. Farnsworth examines the meteorite piece and lets everyone know that it’s not an ordinary meteorite, but an impact created when an asteroid slams into a celestial object. When he tests it to find out where it’s from, it turns out it came from Decapod 10, Zoidberg’s home planet. The Planet Express crew then heads to his planet to return the piece of the planet, and Dr Judith explains it’s ejector from the Proto-Archean impact event, and we get a little explanation of it.
Back on Earth, Zoidberg goes to his dumpster, only to discover that Amy’s downstairs neighbors are living there now, and Fry offers Zoidberg to stay with him and Leela. He turns out to be a bit of a pig, and a little annoying, and Leela’s parents call to ask for a visit, and of course, she jumps at the opportunity to leave Zoidberg there. Leela rejects another hangout with her family, so they take Zoidberg to the family gathering instead, much to her dismay.
Leela finally visits, and Zoidberg talks about how Leela’s parents are like the ones he never had, and with that, Leela’s parents decide to adopt Zoidberg. At the ceremony for Zoidberg’s adoption, Zoidberg tries to give a toast to his parents and his new sister Leela, when an argument ensues between Leela, her parents, and Zoidberg. Suddenly, Leela has some kind of medical episode and has to go to the hospital. The doctor breaks the bad news that Leela has a broken blenal gland, and that she will die if she doesn’t have a blenal gland transplant, which only certain mutants have.

In the sewer, Farnsworth and Amy take samples from all the mutants and test them at the hospital. The last one has a match, and it turns out to be Zoidberg, which seemingly defies logic, until Dr Judith explains how it’s possible, having to do with the Proto-Archean impact event, and the two sharing a common ancestor. Zoidberg offers to donate his blenal gland to save Leela, and the operation is a success, and Zoidberg gets his old dumpster back, and Leela and Zoidberg hang up their family pictures with each other, one winding up in the sewer with Leela’s parents.
It was nice to see Zoidberg, who is usually considered the annoying one of the group, get some love and respect, and also develop more humanity. While this episode wasn’t as funny as some of the other episodes (the episode is slightly more serious of course, so it wouldn’t have all kinds of comedy in it) it brought a nice little character development, in the classic Futurama way.
