Episode 6 begins on what looks like a planet supernova, with Professor Farnsworth revealing that the smelloscope is picking up on it (revealed to be a collapsing moltar). When examining the smells Zoidberg messes it up with his odd dust bath, and Farnsworth tries to make a naser, nose laser, to clear his nasal passages. When the device he makes isn’t strong enough because of the crystals, everyone goes to the New New York New New Age Faire to acquire some.
After he gets the necessary materials and successfully cleanses his nostrils, he gets fed up with the Planet Express members buying into the unscientific nonsense from the faire. After Farnsworth dismisses the claims about Faith from a fortune teller machine, people begin to start rising into the air, which still doesn’t convince him. Suddenly, people start rising to the heavens in New New York City, and the news reveals that the rapture is beginning. At the Planet Express no one there has yet ascended, and Farnsworth starts complaining about it, how he doesn’t believe it, and that they need proof to prove that the rapture that’s happening is false.
At the church, the worldwide religious leaders discuss the current events, and celebrate, and Farnsworth and the rest of the crew begin to protest the religions. The church leaders invite Farnsworth in to discuss his scientific views about the rapture. Back at Planet Express, Farnsworth makes everyone barricade the doors and windows to avoid ascending, when Leela begins to ascend through an opening in the roof. Farnsworth begins showing his thought process, when Amy leaves to see Kif and the kids who are visiting. They wind up kidnapping Amy, to bring her to the Grand Midwife to free her from the “cult of science” with Farnsworth, when they suddenly begin ascending.

With nearly everyone gone, Farnsworth is still in denial, and trying to find a scientific explanation, and Hermes and Bender are getting frustrated, with Fry nearly dead from them not eating. Farnsworth finally realizes the religious importance, and begins to pray. A cheese puff floats down, which turns out to be bait, using some kind of molecular string and hook, to pull Fry into heaven. This proves it wasn’t religion, as we see the line comes up to some alien fishermen, and reveals all the people who rose are frozen in an area of the ship (and chum bucket). Farnsworth, Bender, and Hermes get to the ship to confront the fishermen, when the Coast Guard arrives to stop the illegal fishing. Turns out Hermes called the Coast Guard, and he explains what rules the alien fisherman violated. The fishermen are forced to free the humans, and Farnsworth relishes in the scientific discovery, but telling everyone else they can believe what they want.
Yet another great addition to this series, episode 6 was definitely a little better than the previous one (not that the last one was bad, but this was a little funnier). It was interesting seeing the professor actually lose hope in science for a moment, but in true Futurama fashion, his science is proven in a ridiculous way.
