It’s now Summer 2013, and Percy is continuing to write her heart out. Now that the characters are a bit older, romantic feelings are starting to arise between all of the protagonists, although they don’t really realize it in the moment. Delilah constantly pressures Percy to make a move on Sam, and Charlie does the same for Sam. Delilah also has a huge crush on Charlie, and she is determined to make herself known.
Back in the present, Percy is writing Sue’s obituary for Sam as Taylor was struggling with it. There is chemistry that is apparent, but they both know it’s best to pump the breaks on anything relating to that. Delilah meets up with Jordie for golf, and opens up about her relationship with her husband: they’ve split and that’s why she’s going for Charlie. Jordie is there as a source of comfort.
Back at the motel, Chantal decides that it’s time for her to leave. She’ll pick up Percy after the funeral. But there’s One big problem: Chantal’s passport has expired, so she can’t cross the border back to Seattle. Percy researches and finds the nearest consultation is about three hours away, and Charlie knows someone there that could help. Chantal goes to Charlie and almost catches Delilah and him kissing, but she doesn’t really care. She just needs to get out of there. Charlie offers to take her, but the truck breaks down in the middle of nowhere, leaving Chantal cooked.
Percy drops off the final obituary at Sam’s place, and he thinks it’s perfect. They both decide to go for a swim in the lake. it’s the first time they’ve done that in 10 years. Percy is happy, and so is Sam. Sam then invites her to The Tavern to help him prepare meals. She agrees.

In another flashback, it’s Summer 2013 again. This time, Percy is at home alone as her parents are out of town for a conference. She is watching a scary movie in bed as it’s pouring and thundering outside. The power goes out, and she runs to Sam’s house scared out of her skin. She begs him to sleep over and he agrees. They both end up sleeping in the same bed, the chemistry off the charts. This is the first time that a true connection is formed. However, the next morning, when Charlie accuses them of sleeping together, Sam says that he would never do that as he doesn’t see Percy that way. This of course upsets her and she storms off.
Towards the end of that summer, Sam invites Percy and Delilah to an end-of-summer bonfire. Delilah goes all out to impress Charlie, but is heartbroken when she learns that he has a girlfriend. This causes her to grow closer to Jordie. Percy gives Sam dirty looks and is short with him the whole time.. She even kisses the bartender to make sure Sam is uncomfortable. Some time passes, and Percy apologizes to Sam, saying that she was just hoping the night would take them further. They both agree to not ruin their friendship, even though they clearly have feelings for each other.
Back in the present, Percy is all dressed up for her cooking night with Sam. When he sees her, he is blown away by how gorgeous she looks. They get closer and closer, and almost kiss. But Delilah walks in on them and is furious. Percy runs out. On the way back to the motel, she is on the phone with her mom saying how coming to the town was a mistake and she is leaving first thing in the morning. Before getting to her room, she is stopped by a lawyer and is instructed to go to a reading taking place the next morning. She’s in Sue’s will. Cut to black.

This episode is the one that started to get the train moving. The younger actors are replaced with the current actors, which is nice as these actors have much more chemistry between them. It also makes the flashbacks seem more significant as the timeline is getting closer to the present. We also get to see some chemistry between the two leads. There were both heartwarming and heart pounding moments throughout, but that’s what made it an inciting incident.
