This episode begins with Elle paying her respects to Robin. She notices no stop sign at the sidewalk where Robin was struck and killed. She and Liz go to the police station with a petition to put a stop sign in that intersection, but the officer corrects her by saying that Principal Anderson already purchased that stop sign a long time ago. Elle and Liz quickly realize that maybe Dustin is right about Principal Anderson scamming money from the school.
Elle, Liz, Dustin, and Miles go to a GameStop where Donna works yet another job. They tell her their Principal Anderson theory and ask her if there’s any proof that they could possibly find. Donna tells them a specific staff member has keys to all of the rooms in the school, including a hidden cabinet in Anderson’s office. But he will only most likely be there on Saturday. Elle thinks about how all of them can get into the school on a Saturday. She then sees the film poster for The Breakfast Club. All four of them get in trouble throughout the week so they can serve detention together on Saturday.
Once all together, Elle hands a list of phases to get the janitor’s keys and get into Anderson’s office. Surprisingly, Kimberly shows up for actual detention. She thinks Elle’s plan is ridiculous at first, but she’s immediately on board when she learns the stop sign could have saved Robin’s life. The plan goes into motion.
At Dean Wilson’s office, Eva works to prepare him for an upcoming debate. Dean lets her know her artistic eye was an absolute blessing. Eva tells him about Elle’s bizarre idea that Principal Anderson is scamming money from the school. This puts a worried look on Dean’s face.
Back in detention, Miles pulls Elle aside, sensing obvious tension between them. Asking about their status, Elle tells him that even though Shannon is no longer in the picture, she doesn’t want to hurt her as she’s not that type of girl.
Miles uses the hall pass to search for the keys, but Principal Anderson busts him and leads him back to the detention room.
Furious, Principal Anderson instructs them to stay in the room for the rest of detention. When all hope seems lost, they remember that another student is there with them. The student happens to have a pet ferret. They ask to borrow it and put the ferret in the vents. When the ferret starts crawling around the air ducts, Dustin asks Principal Anderson to use peanut butter to lure it out. This draws the janitor in the room with the keys on the cart. Elle slips them right off and hands them to Miles. Once the ferret is recovered, Principal Anderson accuses the students. That’s when Kimberly has a severe “allergic reaction” to the opened jar of peanut butter. Principal Anderson runs to the nurse’s office for an EpiPen, but threatens if anybody leaves the room, they will be expelled. Since Miles is the fastest runner in the school, they decide he will run to the office and take pictures of the evidence that they need.
While Miles runs to the principal’s office and Principal Anderson gets the EpiPen, Elle pieces together that Kimberly and Liz’s tension is due to a romantic past. Her focus switches when Dustin says that Anderson is on his way back to the classroom. Afraid that Miles will get expelled, Elle finds a lighter and burns her paper lists to set off the smoke detectors. The alarms and sprinklers go off as they run out of the building.
Principal Anderson tells them they’ll be severely punished unless somebody comes forward. Elle, of course, says that it was her fault, but she’s very proud of herself. They all leave feeling very heroic. Later, they all meet up at Miles’s house as he has gotten the evidence. He shows them a little Polaroid of a woman and a child. The woman in the picture is wearing the same orange suede jacket that Elle spotted a few episodes prior. They wonder if Principal Anderson is using school funds to pay somebody to stay quiet. Liz then approaches them and says that she needs help immediately. Donna has been arrested as bags of money were planted in her car. Cut to black.
This episode was an absolute roller coaster to say the least. So many things happened and we learned more about the characters. Starting with Principal Anderson, we learn that not only was he potentially having an affair, but he may be stealing money to cover a secret family. Donna is in trouble yet again, but this time it looks like she was absolutely framed. The relationship between Liz and Kimberly becomes more apparent, and Kimberly seems to finally be opening up to Elle. This episode was well-paced and well-edited, as parts of the plan became apparent each montage. It looks like more secrets are going to be uncovered soon.
