Previously on Showtime’s Dexter: Resurrection, Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) successfully plants Ryan’s watch inside Mia’s (Krysten Ritter) home, framing her for the murder. Dexter makes one phone call while Mia is seducing her next victim, which results in Mia being arrested and sent to jail. Harrison (Jack Alcott) and Dexter begin to form a bond again, as they start to learn that they both need each other, physically and emotionally.
The episode starts with Dexter sweeping Blessing’s porch. Blessing comes out and tells him that his mother has passed. Dexter says, “Death comes for us all.” Dexter calls Harrison to let him know he has to take a rain check on hanging out. Instead, Harrison brings Dexter a suit and accompanies him to the wake. They expect it to be a sad time for the family, but when they walk in, the home is filled with laughter and conversations. Dexter introduces the family to Harrison, and Blessing says that this wake is to celebrate his mother and their family.
Next, we see Charley (Uma Thurman) at Ronald Schmidt’s place. No one answers, so she breaks inside. She calls Leon (Peter Dinklage) and lets him know that Red is MIA. He ends up calling Dexter, letting him know that he needs to meet with him at his house.
Detective Claudette (Kadia Saraf) and her partner ask Mia’s victim from the previous episode about his interaction with her. He tells them that Mia said that he’d be her first kill in New York, which confuses Claudette, knowing that Mia’s supposedly guilty of killing Ryan.
Angel (David Zayas) comes to the station and shows them his thought process on Mia and Ryan’s death. He tells them about Dexter and explains that he suspects Dexter’s the Bay Harbor Butcher. He says that he believes Harrison was the one who killed Ryan, and Dexter planted Ryan’s watch at Mia’s apartment. They allow him to come with them to visit Mia and get some answers.
Dexter goes to Leon’s home and notices that everyone else is there, excluding Mia and Lowell (Neil Patrick Harris). The tension is thick as Gareth (David Dastmalchian) expresses his worries and doubts about trusting Mia. Leon gives the three men some more money to keep them comfortable while he’s dealing with Mia.
Dexter does more research on Gareth, making him his next victim. He follows Gareth in the streets of NYC and walks behind him as he enters a bookstore. Gareth grabs a book from the true crime section and places a bookmark inside. Once he walks away, Dexter goes over to check it out. Dexter finds that Gareth is meeting with someone in secret. Dexter looks through the book more and finds a chapter on the Bay Harbor Butcher.

Dexter goes back home afterward, and when he enters his place, he notices Gareth lurking inside. He asks why he took his note from the book. Dexter lies and says that he’s a big fan of his, wanting to get to know him better. Dexter makes Gareth a drink while pouring a drug from a syringe into his glass. After taking a sip of his drink, Gareth passes out.
Harrison watches Elsa’s (Emilia Suárez) son while she’s at work. He has an asthma attack, and Harrison guides him to take deep breaths. While the boy is asleep, Harrison hears a knock on the door, and it’s Elsa’s landlord. Harrison gets defensive, telling the tenant that the boy’s health is impacted by mold that the landlord won’t fix. Harrison envisions himself stabbing the landlord with a fork, so he immediately drops it to the ground and ignores the urge.
Right after Dexter kills Gareth, Blessing knocks on his door, wanting to speak with him. Dexter rushes to hide any evidence, putting Gareth’s body in his bathtub. The two of them share a heart-to-heart, Blessing telling Dexter about his past. Dexter keeps a close eye on Blessing as he goes to his bathroom to get some Advil. Luckily, Blessing doesn’t notice anything strange. Once Blessing leaves, Dexter takes care of Gareth’s body.
The next morning, Harrison and Dexter meet for breakfast. Harrison tells his dad about the urge he had with the landlord. Dexter tells him it’s normal to have that feeling, but advises him to use that urge to do something good. Dexter says that he’ll be there to help him every step of the way.
Angel and Claudette plan to visit Mia, but before they get a chance, the alarm in the jail goes off, immediately alerting the guards. They head to the cells and notice that Mia has taken her life. We learn that one of the guards received money from Charley to keep Mia from talking.
Dexter hears of Mia’s death on the radio while driving to meet with Charley and Leon. The three catch a flight with Al (Eric Stonestreet). Dexter worries that they’ll catch on to him with Mia being dead and both Lowell and Gareth now missing. They wait for someone to board the plane. Dexter realizes that someone is Gareth, who had a twin brother. He killed the wrong person.
Overall, this was a very good and intriguing episode. Between Dexter’s bonding with Harrison and the side missions that Leon has been ordering for Charley, a lot is going on. Now that this is the end of Mia’s story, it’s been amazing to see Krysten Ritter play a serial killer, having a very seductive and mysterious vibe. It’s very intriguing to find out what will happen now that Dexter realizes that Gareth has a twin brother. What will happen now that Mia is dead?
