Previously on Showtime’s Dexter: Resurrection, Dexter (Michael C. Hall) finds out that there’s a serial killer on the loose in the city, using his alias, the “Dark Passenger.” After Harrison’s (Jack Alcott) murder, Dexter sneaks into the hospital and puts all the clues together, fixing his son’s mistakes, so that the Feds won’t catch them when they begin to search the building to find more evidence on the murder of Ryan. Dexter meets a new friend, Blessing Kamara (Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine), who offers him a place to stay. Lead Detective on the case, Claudette (Kadia Saraf), begins looking for clues at every angle possible.
Claudette interrogates Harrison. She asks about him and Ryan’s relationship, and the recording of him helping Ryan with Shauna. He tells her that Ryan told him that she was his wife and that she was drunk. He lies that he went to the bar the night of the murder. Later that day, Claudette investigates clues at the hotel. She goes to the kitchen and notices things that could’ve been done to hide the murder.
Later that night, Dexter joins Blessing and his family for dinner. Blessing’s wife, Constance, let’s Dexter know that she did a background check on him, saying that she does that with all of the tenants they bring in. Dexter takes a look and learns that he can do the same on the “Dark Passenger.”
He goes back downstairs to his place and starts his research. He first looks up Ronald Schmidt and finds an address. In the morning, he stakes it out. He sees the man he ran into in the previous episode, and when he leaves, Dexter breaks into the stranger’s home. Inside, Dexter finds a hiding spot in the ceiling. He searches and finds a book that keeps all of the IDs of the killer’s victims.
Next, we see Angel Batista (David Zayas). He gets a phone call from Officer Teddy Reed, who tells him that Dexter’s living in New York right now. Angel orders Reed to send him all the information he has.
Later that night, Dexter follows Harrison and watches him walk into a diner. Before he can go inside, he realizes that his son is on a date, so he doesn’t move forward. Harrison is meeting up with Elsa (Emilia Suárez) to catch up. After eating, they go back to her place.
The next day, we see the mystery woman, Charley (Uma Thurman), preparing to host a dinner.
Harrison gets pulled over again for questioning by Detective Claudette. She shows him more footage, saying that he lied about what happened and that he stopped Ryan from hurting Shauna. Claudette tells him what she believes happened, and although he doesn’t express it, she describes exactly what happened. She and her partner, Detective Melvin (Dominic Fumusa) assure Harrison that they will do everything they can to make sure that he won’t be charged for first-degree murder.
He tells them that he has a confession to make, stating that he never left the hotel that night because he lives in the hotel. He tells them that he’s homeless and no one knows that he stays there, which is true. He uses Elsa as an alibi, so Claudette and Detective Fumusa ask her what he told them was true. Elsa reassures them that Harrison is a good person.
Angel reunites with two friends, Joey Quinn (Desmond Harrington) and Vince Masuka (C.S. Lee), who were also in the original Dexter series. He tells them that he’s going to be taking some time off from work. He doesn’t say any reason why, but it’s to do with Dexter.
Dexter is parked, waiting to pick up his next Lyft client, who happens to be Ronald. He has a needle with a drug to sedate him, but drops it between the seat and the middle compartment. Ronald gets in the car, and while Dexter’s driving, he tries grabbing the needle before he runs out of time. His fingertips touch it, and before he can grab it, it falls even farther. Suddenly, Ronald puts a wired rope around Dexter’s neck, threatening him to do “exactly” what he says.
Dexter parks the car, and after a battle, he’s able to grab the needle and use it on Ronald. He takes him home and prepares for his interrogation and murder. Ronald wakes up, and Dexter begins to tell him who he is. He kills him and afterwards, looks inside Ronald’s bag and finds an invitation from Charley from the last episode. He also finds a case filled with money. He goes to an abandoned neighborhood and uses an old apartment complex, burning the body of Ronald.
Overall, this was a really good episode. Michael C. Hall’s work is incredible and never fails to amaze, as Dexter truly returns to his old ways toward the end of the episode. It was nostalgic to see some more old characters from Dexter in this episode. Jack Alcott also does extremely well as Harrison, as we can see him become more stressed with the situation. He knows that he has to do whatever he can to get Claudette off his back. What will happen when Dexter goes to this serial killer dinner?
