Previously on Paramount’s Dexter: Resurrection, we’re reunited with the infamous Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) and his son, Harrison (Jack Alcott). The premiere episode picks up where the previous installment, New Blood, ended: Harrison shooting Dexter, leaving him in a coma. As Dexter dreams of people from his past, Harrison murders a predator. Once awake, Dexter heads to NYC to monitor his offspring.
Episode 2 begins with a man getting into an Uber ride in New York City. The driver changes the music for him, and then the stranger starts asking questions about his life. As the ride continues, the driver receives notifications that he’s getting further away from his pickup, indicating that the person in the car isn’t the one he was supposed to pick up. Before he can say anything, the stranger puts a wire around his neck, threatening him. He asks if anyone will miss him when he’s gone, and he says his children. After continuing to ask him questions, the stranger kills the driver.
The next morning, a young man finds the driver’s body in the car, which is parked in an abandoned parking lot.
Dexter watches Harrison from the car. Harry’s spirit shows up and tells Dexter to talk to his son. He watches Harrison leave the hotel, and after debating with Harry, Dexter leaves the car and secretly goes inside the hotel. He finds Ryan’s hotel room and observes, making sure Harrison didn’t make any mistakes after the kill. He’s proud of Harrison for making the entire space clean and having no messes, saying to himself that he taught him well.
Before Dexter can leave, the NYPD agents inspect the room. Dexter realizes that the agent is great at her job, taking notes of what the killer did in that room with Ryan. After leaving Ryan’s room, Dexter notices the security cameras in the hallway, and he begins to put together how Harrison snuck the body out of the hotel room and how he cleaned everything up. He goes to the kitchen and realizes that Harrison used the area to clean up. After the kitchen closes, he goes inside and notices a tiny splatter of blood on the ceiling, so he cleans it up.
Harrison goes to his friend Elsa’s (Emilia Suárez) place to babysit her son. As he’s walking up the stairs, he has another episode, hearing voices and seeing Ryan’s spirit.
Later, Dexter’s truck gets towed, so he gets an Uber. The driver, Blessing Kamara (Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine), tells him that the drivers have been cautious because all of the murders being committed by the serial killer, named the “dark passenger.” This piques Dexter’s interest because his alias is the “dark passenger,” meaning someone’s stealing his image.
While waiting for his car, Dexter asks Blessing about how he could get a job as a driver. Blessing sends him a link and invites him over for a party at his house.
The next day, the mysterious woman from the previous episode, Charley (Uma Thurman), is in Michigan. She goes to a bank to find one of her clients. She sees him trying to get money from an ATM and notices he doesn’t have anything in his account. She fires him, and as he tries to beg her not to, she kills him.
Detective Claudette Wallace (Kadia Saraf) reviews security footage of Ryan and Shauna the night he was killed. They notice that Shauna was drugged. Claudette tells the manager that they need to speak with her.

Dexter goes to Blessing’s home, where everyone welcomes him with open arms. Blessing introduces him to everyone. Blessing’s friend is a driver as well and was once attacked by the “dark passenger.” He never reported the incident to the police, which means that Dexter has a chance to kill the killer and get away with it. The friend tells Dexter that the killer resembles him. He shows Dexter the footage from his phone, and the killer has a hoodie that hides his face from the camera. After discussing the killer, Blessing offers Dexter a place to stay in his basement.
Dexter does his research and finds a Ronald Schmidt who fits the description of the killer. He goes to the area where Ronald works and looks around, trying to see if he can find something or someone out of place, but doesn’t find anything.
Next, we see Harrison at the hotel. He goes to the lobby to find Shauna being taken in for questioning by Claudette and her team. Claudette and her partner notice the eye contact between the two. She tells the manager that she wants to bring Harrison in for questioning.
Dexter goes back to the building and waits for the stranger to leave for the night. He begins to follow him and gets a clear view of his face after “accidentally” bumping into him. He starts to chase after him, but doesn’t get far, as the stranger makes it onto the train.
Overall, this was a good episode. Harrison seems to have a normal life, befriending Elsa and taking care of her son while she’s away. Michael C. Hall is amazing in his role as Dexter. Even though we don’t know anything about Uma Thurman’s character, Charley seems to have a mysterious career. Blessing is a great addition to the storyline, creating a sense of normal in Dexter’s life. What will happen when Harrison goes in for questioning? Is it possible that the killer is Dexter’s brother?
