Review: ‘Dexter: Resurrection’ Season 1, Episode 10 “And Justice For All…”

Previously in Showtime’s Dexter: Resurrection, Dexter’s (Michael C. Hall) real identity is exposed when Angel Batista (David Zayas) meets Leon Prater (Peter Dinklage). Dexter tells Harrison (Jack Alcott) about Leon and the serial killer group. Later, Dexter tries to save Angel, but Leon kills him and leaves Dexter locked inside his vault.

The season finale begins with Leon and Charley (Uma Thurman) back in the cellar, after Leon killed Angel. Charley’s disturbed by the fact that Leon’s amazed he killed a cop. Dexter’s locked in the vault, searching for some way out. He covers up Angel’s body with a sheet when he hears clapping; it’s Brian Moser (Christian Camargo), aka Rudy Cooper, his dead brother. Dexter tells him, “I’m glad I killed you when I had the chance.”

Dexter finds Angel’s phone and calls Harrison. He tells him what’s going on, so Harrison plans to work at the gala to find a way to get Dexter out. Meanwhile, Dexter finds files in the vault and goes through them, looking for anything to help get him out of there. He learns that Leon hosts the gala every year on the day his parents died.

It’s time for the gala, and Harrison FaceTime’s Dexter, putting his phone in his front pocket so that Dexter can direct him. Harrison goes into the kitchen, and a guard almost catches him. He’s able to distract the guard before hurrying to the stairs. He picks a lock on a door, but Charley’s on the other side. She makes him sit, and Dexter orders him to give her the phone. Dexter then sends Charley the file Leon has on her.

Charley leaves, and Harrison tries to enter the code to the vault. Before Dexter can say anything else, the phone dies, leaving Harrison to guess if it’s right or not. He presses enter, and the vault opens. Dexter tells Harrison to go back to the gala, but Harrison is hesitant, not wanting to leave his father. Dexter leaves him no choice but to go back. Dexter looks for the fingerprint to gain access to leave the building.

While giving his speech, Leon notices Harrison making a run toward the exit. He quickly finishes his speech and grabs a gun before turning off the security cameras. Leon catches up to Harrison and leads him back inside, calling Dexter. Dexter rushes to save his son, who Leon is holding at gunpoint. Dexter hints to Harrison about the needle, which Dexter’s used on his victims to kill them, and as Leon pulls the trigger to shoot Harrison, Harrison stabs him with the needle. Dexter gives Harrison the car keys while Dexter takes his time killing Leon.

Before leaving the premises, Dexter enters the wrong code to the vault to get everyone’s attention on Leon’s big secret. Detective Claudette and her partner enter the room, and they notice Angel’s body. Dexter escapes on Leon’s yacht, dropping his body into the water.

Overall, this was a great way to end the season, with Dexter killing Leon and everything working at his advantage. Charley was able to leave and take her mother somewhere safe, and Detective Claudette found all the evidence on Jack the Ripper, whom she was obsessed with. Peter Dinklage played an amazing role as Leon Prater, being creepily excited about killing Harrison and just being surrounded by serial killers in general. It was also interesting to see Uma Thurman’s character, Charley, have secrets that no one but Leon knew about. Now that the series has been renewed for a second season, what’s more to come?
