Michael C. Hall has come back to play his famous role, Dexter Morgan, from the series Dexter. In 2021, a new series, Dexter: New Blood, premiered with only one season, with Dexter leaving his home and creating a new identity as Jim Lindsay, living in Iron Lake, New York. His son, Harrison (Jack Alcott), tracks him down, only to discover they share a dark, violent nature. After shooting his father and leaving him for dead, Harrison decides not to follow in his father’s footsteps and murders Dexter in a dramatic conclusion. Now, in Dexter: Resurrection, the story continues through Harrison’s eyes as he struggles with the darkness he inherited — and the choice to fight it or give in.
The episode begins with Dexter in the hospital, being revived. Ten weeks later, he has a vision of Arthur Mitchell (John Lithgow), the “Trinity Killer” from the original Dexter series. Arthur tells Dexter that he already knows who he truly is: a killer. Arthur then disappears, and Dexter ends up at a graveyard with his old friend Miguel Prado (Jimmy Smits), who was also in Dexter. Miguel tells him that when Dexter kills other killers, future innocents are saved. He then looks at the gravestones, seeing the names of his family members and friends.
Next, we see Harrison. After waking up, he brushes his teeth, gets dressed, and gets ready for his shift at the Empire Hotel. He receives the news that he has passed his test and now holds a GED. He takes out the trash from the hotel kitchen and goes to the main floor to meet with his boss. As he helps two new customers get settled into the hotel, they go to the elevator, and Harrison begins to have a vision/hallucination of snow on the group and a pool of blood trailing out to the woods.
We then see Dexter, who’s still in a coma. His dad speaks to him. Harry tells him he can’t give up and that he should think about Harrison. Dexter says that Harrison is better off without him. Harry disagrees, relating Harrison to Dexter. He says that rescuing Dexter when he was a little boy was never a mistake. Harry says that his son needs him.
Dexter has another visit in his sleep, this time from his old colleague, James Doakes (Erik King). He tells Dexter that somewhere deep inside, he’s a good person and that Harrison needs him. He tells him to wake up and find him.
Dexter wakes up from his coma and learns he’s been in a coma for ten weeks.
At the hotel, Harrison assists his frequent customer, Ryan, with a girl named Shauna. Harrison learns that Ryan drugged her. They go to Ryan’s room, and he gives Harrison money as a payment to leave him alone. Harrison is angry, but continuously tells himself that it’s not his problem until he hears Shauna yell.
He bursts into the room and fights Ryan. Harrison looks in the mirror and notices blood all over him, and that Ryan is dead. He quietly takes Shauna to her room and grabs cleaning equipment, beginning the process of decomposing the body.

Dexter is learning to walk again at the hospital during physical therapy. He gets a visit from Officer Teddy (David Magidoff) from Dexter: New Blood. He gives him a picture from his ex, Angela Bishop (Julia Jones), who left home for good.
The NYPD finds remains of Ryan’s body in the dumpster bags, but not all of them; they won’t be able to figure out whose body it is. Detective Claudette Wallace (Kadia Saraf) looks through all of the bags and finds the missing pieces. At the hotel, the NYPD comes in and searches Ryan’s room with the forensics team.
Next, Dexter gets another visit from his old friend and colleague, Angel Batista (David Zayas). Dexter tells him why he left and what happened to his sister Debra (Jennifer Carpenter). Angel tells Dexter that Angela said he was the Bay Harbour Butcher. Angel believes that Doakes is the Bay Harbour Butcher, but Dexter doesn’t say anything, knowing it’s not true. Angel has “resurrected” Dexter, meaning that Dexter Morgan is known to be alive on paper again.
Dexter finds out about Ryan and realizes it’s probably Harrison who killed him, using the routine that he taught him. He escapes the hospital and drives to a clothing store, grabbing new clothes.
Angel learns that Dexter’s escaped.
Next, we see a woman, Charley (Uma Thurman), searching someone’s apartment, finding a book of IDs with bloody x’s on them. She puts an invitation inside the box and then leaves, making sure the place looks the same as it was when she got there.
Dexter makes it to New York City and sees his son from afar at the hotel.
Overall, this was a great episode, introducing the new Dexter series. It’s exciting to see Michael C. Hall back in his famous role as Dexter Morgan. Hall has always done such an amazing job portraying Dexter and his mysterious identity. It was nostalgic to see some of the other characters like Angel, Doakes, and Dexter’s father, Harry. Was Ryan Harrison’s first kill since moving to New York? What will Dexter do now that he’s there?
