Episode 4 opens with a doctor giving a lady (Eugenia Godzik, the mother of victim Greg Godzik) a mold of her son’s teeth, in case he disappeared. We then see Sam talking to Bob about the case, where they make the realization that the police never had Gacy sign anything, and all they have is notes.
This means that they have nothing to prove Gacy said anything. Joe and Tovar confront Frank with CPD about dropping the ball, letting Gacy go early, and requesting papers involving missing kids and Gacy. We meet the next victim, Billy Kindred, in 1977, who is a bit of a troublemaker.
John is given a psychological evaluation by Deborah Heely, where he reveals his father was abusive, and he stole the mother’s panties. Gacy also explains how he left home to try and make a name for himself to make his father proud. He then gets pissed at Deborah for having a messy setup, showing his psychotic side. We then get more backstory talk, including how his father’s death affected him, and how his wife Marlynn took his kids away from him after his crime.
He then tries to claim that he murdered the first victim in self-defense. Deborah releases her findings to Bob and Sam. Sam talks about how they need to make a case of his mental condition, Deborah agrees it’s possible, and Sam asks her if she would testify about it in court, which she agrees to. Joe makes a call to Frank, to tell him that after doing some digging he found that Robert Donnelly was walking from college to a bus stop. Gacy pulls over and pretends to be a cop, cuffs him, then takes him to his house, and does horrible things to him. The States attorney’s office declined to prosecute, and called it homosexual horseplay. Three months later, Gacy attacks Jeffery Rignall, with the same outcome (this also includes the missing kids). This shows that this isn’t a mistake, but a scandal. We then get footage of the real Eugenia Godzik, and a picture of Greg Godzik, and Billy Kindred.
This episode had better production than the other one. The editing seemed better again. The flips between 77 and 78 for instance, happened a bit less frequently which was a bit better (and no meme screams to mess a scene up). Overall, this episode was a bit better.
