Previously on the Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) gets dangerous with some police officers who are trying to rig his client Hector Ayala’s (Kamar de los Reyes) trial. We find out that Hector is a vigilante; White Tiger. Heather Glenn (Margarita Levieva) becomes Wilson Fisk’s (Vincent O’nofrio) and Vanessa’s (Ayelet Zurer) marriage counselor. Cherry (Clark Johnson) and Kirsten McDuffie (Nikki M. James) help Matt with his case and try to figure out what’s going on with the policemen involved.
The next episode starts with Matt going to Hector’s cell to talk to him. Hector reminisces about Puerto Rico, his childhood home. Matt promises that he will be reunited with his family and that he’ll be able to travel to Puerto Rico again.
Next, we see two gentlemen pull into a parking lot, meeting with a group of people. They are Fisk associates handling illegal business. Suddenly, they’re double-crossed when their clients shoot them both.
The next morning, Matt is in the bathroom at the courthouse. He hears someone walk in while he’s washing his hands. It’s Officer Powell, the officer accusing Ayala of murdering his partner. Tension rises between them. The last time they saw each other, Matt gave Officer Powell a vicious beating.
The trial begins and Officer Powell is the first witness on the stand. Powell tells the judge that his partner was pushed into a train by Hector and that Hector was dangerous. He’s lying about the situation.
Matt asks him questions about the train station. Then he asks if he knows who Nicky Torres is and he says no. When Matt asks if he and his partner had a meeting with Nicky the night of the accident, Powell denies it.
As Matt sits down in his seat, he hears a cop whisper “Torres can’t testify” and when he turns around, the officer also has a Punisher logo and Blue Lives Matter tattoo on his neck. We noticed that Powell had one on his wrist in the previous episode.
Nicky arrives at the courthouse just in time before the trial for the day begins. Nicky is prepared for his statement, sitting down on the stand. Nicky became an officer informant to be released from jail. Matt asks him if that’s why he was at the train station the other night– to give them information. Nicky tells him no and Matt and Kirsten get frustrated, knowing he’s not telling the truth.
Next, we see Buck (Arty Froushan), who works for Fisk. He meets with three guys, who are upset that he came alone, without Fisk. Vanessa sent him there to tell Luca to pay Viktor for the hijacking at the beginning of the episode.
Vanessa and Fisk are arguing before their session with Heather begins. Vanessa tells him about Buck going to Luca. He asks what she wants and she tells him she doesn’t want any loose ends. She feels as though he’s punishing her for the death of Adam– Fisk’s subordinate.
Back at the trial, it’s time for Hector to be on the stand. He goes over the night with Matt, saying that he saw Powell and his partner beating up Nicky. He didn’t know they were cops; he was just trying to save him. Matt then takes the White Tiger mask from his bag and reveals Hector is the vigilante. The judge then orders him into his office. It’s a big shock to everyone because they all agreed not to mention Hector’s vigilante identity in the first place.
The next day on trial, multiple people come on the stand, talking about how they were saved by White Tiger. There are even some officers who sent letters, stating their experience with being helped or saved by White Tiger.
It’s now time for the verdict. The jury finds Hector not guilty on all charges. Hector gives Matt and Kirsten a hug as he gets emotional.
While watching the news on the case being closed on Hector, Fisk has BB Urich (Genneya Walton) come to his office. She records their conversation. Fisk believes that Hector is guilty. He finds Hector to be a threat because he’s a vigilante.
Next, we see Hector getting back into his suit and looking for someone to help. As he runs on the sidewalk, someone comes by him and kills him. The killer is wearing a bulletproof vest, which looks like the Punisher’s because it has the logo.
Overall, this was a good episode. It’s relieving to see that Hector was found innocent. It felt good when he put his suit on, but as soon as he was ready to save someone, he was shot. It’s exciting to see that the Punisher is being mentioned, piqued by the interest of his character returning. Matt won’t be able to stay true to his retirement of Daredevil for much longer, as he’s continuing to find himself in troubled situations. His fighting skills are always entertaining to see and it’s exciting to see more of that. It’s too bad we didn’t get to see any of that in this episode. Will Hector’s story really be that short in this series? Who’s behind this decision of the bad guys and crooked cops wearing the Punisher attire?
