In our final installment, Owen goes to meet his boss El Jefe in Tijuana Mexico to discuss the loss of the money. Not believing his story, he threatens to kill him, and Owen offers to get him 4 million instead of the 3.2, which he accepts. After Sean Carolan gets out of jail, a friend of his tells Owen about Craig Haeusler, a major organized crime figure, who gets Owen a lawyer named Michael Croke. The Sydney police get wiretaps on Owen, Michael, and Craig’s phone, and you even have Andrew McManus involved in this, getting a cut of the $700,000 if he helps Owen get the money.
Owen gets called in to be interviewed, and is confronted about the evidence. After taking too long to get the money, Owen’s cartel boss El Jefe tells him that he is going to work on the US side of the operation, handling the shipments, and every dollar he makes is going straight to him. Due to the difficulty, Owen gets the idea to talk to Craig, who says they can pay someone to get the drugs through customs, and Owen gets the idea to turn the cocaine into a liquid to put into wine bottles to get it through customs, and it works. To get more help, he enlists Tank to work with him, and Tank recruits his little cuz Rufus as a runner, and a guy named Pauley to ship it. For a while, the plan is working, and the debt starts quickly depleting, eventually being paid off.
Owen continues his drug operations to get tons of money, and getting his colleagues expensive cars, and Gucci merch, even changing his old home, and meeting his girlfriend, Stephanie. She of course eventually becomes suspicious about the drugs, and this gives Owen an ultimatum. Does he want to settle down with this woman, or does he want to keep up his drug empire and keep making money? Robin Hood talks about how he went to the FBI, and after one of Owen’s routes gets stopped, he gets another one from contacts of Craig. It turns out that the contact, Al Wilson, might be part of the FBI. Owen goes to the clubhouse to play golf with Al, and 15 FBI agents, and a helicopter are there waiting for him. Shortly after the 26 others who were involved are also charged, and Owen is sentenced to 21 years and 3 months in prison. After 2 years, Owen is sent to Australia, to be a star witness against Michael Croke, and got his sentence reduced, and was transferred to a halfway house in 2024 to be released in 2025.
While the documentary was short, it was still intriguing, and interesting to see this guy go from a possible football star to a drug kingpin, and see his world crash down, due to crossing the wrong guy. All in all, this is a cool little documentary, and it’s worth checking out.
