Previously on Netflix’s Bridgerton, after receiving the blessing from his mother, Benedict rushes to propose to Sophie late at night, while she’s rushing to leave for America. Sophie gets arrested, planned by Lady Penwood, before she and Benedict have the opportunity to see each other.
The episode begins with everyone preparing for Queen Charlotte’s ball, which is a dedication to Lady Agatha Danbury.
At the Penwood house, Rosamund Li gets engaged. Rosamund brings up Sophie’s arrest, and Posy defends her, which Lady Penwood immediately shuts down. When Mrs. Varley hears of Sophie’s arrest, she immediately goes and tells the Bridgertons. The news of her arrest travels throughout the house.
Sophie is at her initial hearing, a trial, but before the judge can say anything, Benedict and Violet storm in. They make an agreement to have Sophie released and stay with the Bridgertons until the trial is over. After getting settled into her own room at the Bridgerton house, Sophie receives her necklace back from Benedict.
At night, the footman, John, keeps watch standing beside Benedict’s door to make sure neither he nor Sophie leave their rooms. Hazel distracts him while Sophie sneaks into Benedict’s room. She admits that her father and he are the only two men who have shown her what love is.
Eloise assists Sophie with going to the Penwoods’ house. Sophie acts as a chaperone for Eloise while conversing with Cressida. Sophie quietly sneaks to the study to find her father’s will with the help of Alfie and Irma. Sophie finds out that she was in her father’s will and later on informs Benedict.
After listening to Agatha and Charlotte’s conversation about Benedict and Sophie not being allowed to get married, Alice decides she wants to help. She goes to the Bridgertons and informs Violet and Benedict about her plan to sneak Sophie into the ball.
Later, Hyacinth admits to Eloise that she’s afraid to fall in love with someone after witnessing Francesca losing John. She is also afraid because of the death of their father, having to watch their mother grieve. Eloise gives her a different perspective to look at love, saying that it’s okay to be scared.

At the ball, Violet and Benedict arrange for Sophie to meet with the Penwoods. Sophie tells them that she knows about the will, informing Posy and Rosamund that they are in it as well. Posy defends Sophie. Violet convinces Lady Penwood to agree so that neither she nor Sophie gets arrested. They decide that Sophie is her father’s cousin’s daughter, and she’s from the country, not a maid.
Alice stands her ground and takes Charlotte and Agatha to Benedict, who introduces them to Sophie, proving his love for her. After dancing, Benedict proposes to Sophie.
Violet tells Marcus that she’s not ready for an engagement. She expresses that she’s afraid she’ll lose her true self if she decides to get married now. Marcus decides to separate, choosing himself rather than wanting to wait until Violet is ready.
Even though Francesca and Michaela agreed that Michaela would stay in London longer, Francesca learns that she has packed her bags and left. Meanwhile, after settling down back at home, Colin and Penelope learn that someone else has written new Lady Whistledown letters.
After the end credits, we see Benedict and Sophie’s wedding. Anthony tells Benedict that their father would be proud of him. They can finally create the life they want.
The end of the season was well written, with Sophie and Benedict getting their happy ending and new beginning. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out between Violet and Marcus, knowing how much they cared for each other. Yerin Ha and Luke Thompson did such a wonderful job as Sophie and Benedict. Their love story was beautiful. Now knowing that season 5 will focus on Michaela and Francesca, it will be interesting to see how their story plays out, knowing that Michaela left without saying goodbye.
