In the eighth episode of Bosch: Legacy, Reina’s pursuit of the jewelry thieves comes to a head. As the DA’s office makes ground on the Robertson’s murder investigation, Bosch and Mo discover possible corruption.
The episode opens with two men picking up a group of Mexican migrants at a disclosed location. One man arrives late and is scolded before entering the van. As they drive off, they’re instructed to put on blindfolds. Later that evening, the van arrives at an empty factory. As the men filter inside, one of the leaders viciously beats the tardy gentleman. A warning not to let it happen again.
In Los Angeles, Officer Reina Vasquez admits to her chief about Albert’s involvement in the armed robberies. She agrees to remain on the investigation to ensure he’s brought in safely. The unit devises a plan to arrest Albert at his grandfather’s nursing facility, but he detects their bluff. Reina soon discovers Victoria beat them to the chase, removing the stolen goods ahead of time. Later, Victoria betrays Albert and Nestor, arranging a separate deal with their customer. The three thieves find themselves at an impasse.
Meanwhile, Bosch and Detective Lopez discover the substance underneath the “Juan Doe’s” nails is made at a specific factory, Chemical United. The only factory nearby is located in Lancaster. The duo arrives to question Lancaster’s Sheriff Garrity about the “Juan Doe” and the factory. He guides them to the business site for a tour. Here, viewers see the lead henchmen from the opening scene working at the factory. Bosch learns the man is named Humberto Zorrillo, aka The Pope, a former jefe of a large drug cartel in Mexcio. The investigation is cut short when Garrity alerts Lopez’s boss about his time in Lancaster.
As Lopez returns to LA, Bosch remains in the city. After questioning a hotel maid, Bosch learns two men ransacked the “Juan Doe’s” room twice, looking for something. That night, Mo and Bosch rummage through the chaos and find an amount of dugs hidden in a mattress. Bosch alerts Garrity of the find and plans to rendevous that evening. Suspecting Garrity’s involvement, Bosch lies in wait as Zorrillo arrives to the hotel with a silencer in hand. Zorrillo stands outside the room’s door as tension builds; he and Bosch holding their guns at the ready. Suspicious, Zorrillo calmly walks away.
Episode eight is another solid entry in the series. The conflict at Reina’s feet is harrowing and a great display of an officer with the utmost moral compass. The introduction of Zorrillo adds another layer to the series, with a new worthy adversary for Bosch to encounter. With only two episodes left, we’re zipping through storylines pretty quickly. It feels things are a bit rushed, but the series remains entertaining nonetheless. Hopefully, some of these storylines carry over into the spinoff starring Maggie Q.
