Review: ‘Bosch: Legacy’ Season 3, Episode 6 “Broken Order”

Episode six of Bosch: Legacy jumps a month later, after the shocking death of Detective Jimmy Robertson. The DA’s office and Bosch compile evidence to build a case against the alleged killer. Meanwhile, Maddie and Reina advance on Victoria’s crew after a sloppy mistake.

The episode opens in a homeless encampment where medics are dispersing food and other services. After approaching a young man, a female aide sends a text that alerts SWAT to descend on the abandoned building. The young man, Diego Parra, is arrested for the murder of Robertson.

Honey Chandler and her team begin compiling evidence. Parra admits to a string of other similar food truck robberies, which match the MO of this new crime. Witnesses claim the masked individual walked up to the food truck, demanding money with a gun. Robertson, who had just placed his order, asked the assailant to “Be cool.” When the suspect asked for his wallet, Robertson calmly reached for his left back pocket. Suddenly, the suspect shot Robertson point-blank.

Parra contests he was home all night, drunk, at the time of the murder. But a neighbor claims they saw his car leave his residence an hour after the killing, disputing Parra’s alleged alibi. To make sure their case is airtight, Chandler ropes in Bosch to do some more digging. He and Mo discover the security camera of the block was not working, making the eyewitness statements even more vital.

As Honey and Bosch contend with this evidence, Maddie and Reina continue their pursuit of their elusive thieves. After coercing Victoria to sell some product, Nestor fumbles an attempt at a pawn shop. The owner recognizes the merchandise and alerts the police. Maddie and Reina confront Victoria with footage of Nestor in the store. She denies any knowledge of what Nestor does outside their home.

The meeting allows them to track her phone. Victoria calls a burner phone to arrange a meeting at a park that evening. Maddie and Reina await undercover to catch Victoria and the unknown accomplice. Reina is shocked to see her nephew as the hooded individual Victoria embraces in a hug. When Maddie asks if she got a good look at the suspect, Reina lies and says it was too dark.

Episode six is pretty solid, advancing both major plotlines with sufficient building; no particular standouts performance-wise. The time jump, while unexpected, doesn’t take away from the narrative. The writers have ensured enough material to make this storyline worthwhile. It will be interesting to see what lengths Reina may go to protect her family from consequences and whether Maddie will hold her accountable.
