Bosch: Legacy S2 continues the story of Harry Bosch, a former LAPD homicide detective who presently seeks justice on his own terms as a private investigator. Alongside Bosch, the show follows no-nonsense district attorney Honey Chandler, and Maddie, a young police officer who is also Bosch’s daughter. Episode 8 of season 2 explores themes related to justice and vengeance.
In the episode, Agent Sylvia James (Jolene Kay) and William Beron (Anthony Michael Hall) continue their investigation of Honey (Mimi Rogers) and Bosch (Titus Welliver). In an interesting parallel, Honey takes steps to investigate detectives Ellis (Max Martini) and Long (Guy Wilson). Her goals become trickier as the client in her criminal defense case runs into issues while in custody. Ellis and Long continue their efforts to cover their tracks and avoid being found out for their corruption. Maddie gets caught up in the FBI case against her father and Honey, which causes her to feel distressed.
Ellis and Long’s story features the most amount of tension in the episode which is a credit to the show’s writers and directors as they have been building up the character’s story arcs since episode 3 of season 2. Honey’s story is also interesting as the injuries experienced by her client raise the stakes against her, which causes the viewer to hope that she’ll succeed in her defense trial.
While Guy Wilson was one of the standout performances last episode, his recurring scene partner, Max Martini, arguably has the most interesting performance in the episode. Detective Ellis’s nervousness feels very palpable in the episode and Martini manages to portray his character as desperate and fearful. This is especially significant as Ellis’s main character trait up to episode 8 had been that he was simply an angry and intimidating villain, which left him feeling underdeveloped.
The episode overall is decidedly one of the most exciting ones in the season thanks to the captivating storyline featuring Ellis and Long.
