Episode 5 of Bosch: Legacy season 2 explores father-daughter family dynamics, police corruption, and the challenges faced by private investigators.
The A story follows Bosch (Titus Welliver) and Honey (Mimi Rogers) as they continue to investigate a murder case which took place in episode 3 “Inside Man.” The B story is centered around Maddie (Madison Lintz) and officer Vasquez (Reina G. Sanchez) as they participate in an undercover police operation in an effort to prevent theft. The C story follows Mo (Stephen A. Chang) as he attends a convention with other hackers and meets a possible romantic interest.
The A story is the most interesting part of the episode as the audience gets to see Bosch excel as a detective and use different tactics to get closer to his goal of helping Honey prove her client’s innocence. The B story feels a bit dull in the beginning as Maddie and Vasquez aren’t especially active and don’t run into any real conflict. As the B story progresses eventually, it delivers a satisfying payoff and gives Maddie a chance to show her skills as an officer. The C story feels more lighthearted and fun than other storylines from the season which does give the audience a bit of a break from the usual gritty tone of the show. An added bonus is that the audience gets to enjoy more screen time with Mo, who is an interesting character in his own right that often times feels underused at other parts in the season.
The quality of the acting in episode 4 is fairly consistent as all the actors deliver good performances. Madison Lintz stands out in particular, as her character goes through a complex emotional journey near the end of the B story. Titus Welliver also stands out as the audience gets to witness a more intelligent and cunning side of Bosch in this episode.
