Previously on the Disney+ series, Agatha All Along, we watched the new coven make it down the Witches’ Road, reaching their first trial. As they were going through their trial, each of them, except for Teen (Joe Locke), had hallucinations from their pasts. They learn that their trials will be based on their fears. After finishing their first trial and returning to the Witches’ Road, they find a dead Mrs. Hart (Debro Jo Rupp).
The fourth episode starts with Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) staring at Mrs. Hart’s body. Teen digs a hold in the ground to bury her body. Alice Wu-Gulliver (Ali Ahn) helps him. Everyone is upset about Mrs. Hart’s death, while Agatha treats it like an opportunity for the rest of them to gain more power.
The coven begins chanting a spell, to get them a new witch for the coven. They wait for their new member to show up and she turns out to be Rio Vadal (Aubrey Plaza), who we first were introduced to in the first episode of the season.
Agatha storms off upset and Teen follows behind her. He asks if she wants to talk about it, but she ignores him. Lilia Calderu (Patti LuPone), Jennifer Kale (Sasheer Zamata), and Alice wonder if they should like Rio or keep their guards up with her.
As they’re walking along the road, they find another house. This trial will be a “fire phase,” which is Alice’s fear. Walking into the house, their outfits are changed, looking like they’re from the 70s or 80s.
Alice is in a hallway, looking at the framed pictures, and notices her mom in one of the frames on a concert tour poster.
In a studio room, Agatha sits down until Rio comes in, talking about wanting to do some damage. When Agatha tells her that it’s too early for action, she asks Rio what’s her plan. As she asks, she discreetly hits the microphone button, so everyone can hear their conversation. Rio says that Wanda will “kill all the witches around you.” Suddenly, the microphone malfunctions as a vinyl record plays loudly.
Lilia murmurs that they’ve been cursed. A metronome begins to go off, creating a beat. Lilia starts screaming as she begins to burn, causing her to lie on the floor. Alice carves a circle around her on the floor, helping the curse go away. The same thing happens to Jennifer. The two of them end up getting scars on their shoulders.
Alice tells the coven what happened for fire to be her fear and curse. She shows them the same burn marks she has on her shoulder. Suddenly, Teen is thrown through a window. It’s a generational curse, but she didn’t know it was real, only thinking that it was a birthmark. The coven is now a part of that generational curse unless they can break it.
Agatha says they have to play the song on the record “Lorna’s Record”, to stop the curse. The coven starts to perform the song, but the house begins to go up in flames, slowly, at the beginning, because they aren’t putting in much effort. They then get into the groove of the song. Alice is startled as she sees the curse. She sings the lead as the curse grabs her shoulders. Alice kills the demon as the song ends.
The song is now over and they realize they’re okay, until Teen passes out, bleeding from a shard of the window’s glass that pierced his side. The coven ends up back on the Witches’ Road. Jennifer begins saying the ‘Three of Swords’ spell, to heal Teen, but he’s still unconscious.
They all sit down, taking a break. Agatha is with Teen when he wakes up. He asks what happened to her son, which makes her walk away.
The coven, except for Teen, begins to show their scars. Agatha shows a scar that’s on her elbow. Rio mentions she has a scar, but it’s not physical though. Rio explains how she had to do something that hurt someone she loved. This person is her scar. As Rio’s speaking, she’s looking at Agatha the whole time.
Agatha walks away, with Rio trailing behind her. Agatha hugs her and before she can kiss her, Rio tells her that Teen isn’t her son.
Overall, this was a decent episode. The musical number was pretty entertaining. It’s intriguing to begin to understand the witches in the coven and find out what got them to where they are. This episode focused mostly on Alice, so it’s intriguing to see who’ll be the focus in the next episode.
