‘Cobra Kai’ Season 5 Review Episode 7 “Bad Eggs”

Netflix’s Original Series Cobra Kai episode 7 “Bad Eggs” starts with William Zabka’s Johnny Lawrence, Ralph Macchio’s Daniel LaRusso, and Courtney Henggeler’s Amanda LaRusso gather to talk about what to do to beat cobra kai. They know that Thomas Griffith’s Terry Silver has all the power in the valley while everything they have tried has backfired much to Silver’s favor. This is due to Silver coming out on top of everything scheme Johnny and Daniel have made. Luckily, Amanda suggests that they work with Martin Kove’s John Kresse that way they can get a sense of what move to make. In their minds, they all know they cannot get into Silver’s mind set because of his unstable personality. However, they all know they do not have any more options choosing instead to work with a monster they know instead of fighting one they don’t.

A couple of minutes into the episode, and the viewer sees Daniel and Johnny visit Kresse in jail to get his help regarding Silver. From here the viewer sees a flash back to see Barrett Carnahan’s young Kresse and Nick Marini’s young Silver talk about the world tournament showing his ultimate goal for cobra kai to enter and win the tournament. This is due to his need to have control over everything stemming from his desire to have power over others. In his mind, he wants to have cobra kai be number one in the entire world. His drive to make the dojo the best could come from the fact that he wants to prove he is better than Kresse. All of his life he has always listened to Kresse on what to do in life since he believed him to be more in tuned with the world. Now he sees his old friend as a washed up has been who is nothing but a bug waiting to be squished beneath his foot. That is why he decided to betray him in the end and take what he believes to his rightful place as sensei as a result.

Later into the episode, the viewer sees Peyton List’s Tory Nichols train with Oona O’Brien’s Devon Lee. In which Tory feels that Devon should not be in cobra kai due to her being a kind person. In her mind, she sees that Devon is a person who needs to be protected from the harsh treatment in cobra kai. Which is why she openly tries to get her to leave when she gets the chance that way, she does not have to sacrifice her soul to be champion. Unfortunately, she cannot help Devon much due to her helping Kresse take down Silver from the inside. The viewer can that is starting to take a toll on Tory as she must push everything and everyone away including her boyfriend.

At the end of the episode, the viewer sees Johnny and Daniel finish their conversation with Kresse where they tell him that they will never fully trust him enough to help get him out of jail. In their minds, they know that Kresse will never change into a good person due to both of them having suffered at the hands of his abuse. Also, they know the first chance he gets Kresse will stab both of them in the back to take back cobra kai. As a result, they choose to leave him in jail where he belongs for the rest of his life.
