Disney Plus’s Original Series Andor Season One Episode Four “Aldhani” starts with Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor escaping with the mysterious man to a planet call Aldhani. During their travel, the mysterious man reveals that he wants Andor to join the rebel cell he is a part of due to his skills for infiltration while Andor does not want anything to do with the rebellion whatsoever. In his mind, he feels as if all the effort will not matter in the end should he join the rebellion. It seems as if he has heard all of it before the promise of hope as well as the promise of taking the fight to the empire. For him, it seems as if for every stormtrooper, they kill two more and take their place making the sacrifice of life too costly. That is why he believes that it is better to not do anything foolish such as fight in a war and just steal what is not nailed down when they are not looking. This mindset is a result of him seeing people fight in a war when he was sixteenth years old and coming to realize that they were fighting their own people. Having gone through that has made it so that he sees the death toll on both sides end up as a pointless loss of life for everyone.
Further, into the episode, the viewer sees Kyle Soller’s Syril Karn dealing with the fact that as a result of the fight with Andor the empire will be taking over the day-to-day running of their planet. In his mind, he assesses that he messed up when it comes handling the situation properly. Also, he probably believes that he should have left things alone just like his commanding officer told him to. That is why he now sees that his commanding officer told him to leave things alone not because he didn’t completely care but instead because he knew what it would lead to. Unfortunately, he must deal with the guilt that the planet now is no longer acting with independence from the empire. The viewer can see from the look on his face that he is trying to hold back his frustration regarding everything that has happened. Not to mention that he seems as if he will develop a deep hatred for Andor due to Karn seeing him as the cause of all the problems he is facing.
At the end of the episode, Faye Marsay’s Vel Sartha must deal with the mysterious man who she seems to trust enough to accept his vouch for Andor to join her operation. However, she does not trust Andor at all to help with what her group is doing on the planet. In her mind, she sees Andor as someone who has no business being involved in what they are planning. To her he is just some unknown mercenary who is in it for the money that comes from the operation her group is planning while her group fights for the betterment of everyone in the galaxy. Luckily, for her she was given the option of killing him should he prove to be an obstacle instead of an asset. This demonstrates how the series does a fantastic job at showing the distinct aspects to the rebel alliance. Usually, the viewer is told and shown that they tend to be nice people who do not dabble in dark measures. Instead, this time around the viewer is introduced to a more mature side of the rebels in the world of Star Wars. This is shown by how they consider killing Andor instead of letting him leave should things not work out with him joining the group.
