‘Andor’ Season 1 Episode 12 “Rix Road”

Disney Plus’s original series ‘Andor’ season one episode twelve entitled “Rix Road” starts with nearly every character coming to a crossroads when they attend Fiona Shaw’s Maarva Andor’s funeral. However, they are all there for different reasons such as to either capture or kill Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor. Nevertheless, Andor is there to attend his adoptive mother’s funeral and also to help his friends escape from the empire due to their association with him. In his mind, he knows returning for the funeral would lead to him possibly getting captured or killed. To him it does not matter due to his friends being in danger if he chooses to hide while attending. It can be said that he also is trying to honor his adoptive mother’s memory by saving his friends. He knows that is something she would want him to do as she once did for him.

Additionally, the viewer sees Genevieve O’Reilly’s Mon Mothma on her planet as she has found a possible way to deal with the accounts she needs for the funding for the rebellion. It would seem to the viewer that her husband is an extreme gambler who loses a huge amount of money. As a result of this Mon now has a way to explain why she has a huge amount of money missing from her main account. This could lead to her absolving her deal with the well-known criminal and having her daughter be free to choose who she wants to marry. At this point it would seem everything for her is on track to help fund the rebellion.

Later into the episode, the stage is set for the funeral with imperial troopers waiting for when Andor shows up to arrest him and Faye Marsay’s Vel Sartha with her loved one ready to kill him. The interesting part is that there is a hologram with Maarva last words for the people of the planet that is played. From here the viewer can see that her words of rebellion causes everyone to realize that they need to rise up and fight. It can be argued that when a citizen sets off a bomb it is a symbol of rebellion or a symbol of horror due to the death it causes innocents. Unfortunately, things get worse as the troopers open fire on the citizens when they recover from the bomb.

At the end of the episode, Andor goes off to help his friends in the series grand climax with all characters getting their individual ending. As soon as she deals with some imperial troopers Vel finally convinces her loved one to leave with her so they can live normal lives. Meanwhile, Andor manages to save Adria Arjona’s Bix Caleen as she is held hostage and broken by an imperial officer. Luckily, as Andor saves her along with his friends they manage to escape to a ship where they will be safe. The fascinating thing about this is he chooses not to go with them to safety as he believes that staying with them would lead to more danger. He instead chooses to face Stellan Skarsgard’s Luthen Rael as he knows that he has been looking for him to kill him. However, by the look on Andor’s face the viewer can assume he is ready for whatever is going to happen to him. This is demonstrated by how he tells him that he is willing to be taken or killed depending on what he decides. As a result of this Luthen smiles implying that he has a better idea of what to do with Andor.
