‘Andor’ Season 1 Episode 11 “Daughter of Ferrix”

Disney Plus’s original series ‘Andor season one episode eleven entitled “Daughter of Ferrix” kicks off with Alan Tudyk’s K-2SO as he mourns for Fiona Shaw’s Maarva Andor as she passes away due to health complications. By the way he talks the viewer can tell that he is extremely sad that his friend is gone. Also, it can be said that he may suffer from social anxiety which is surprising considering that he is a robot. This demonstrates how the series gives life to even robots with them having problems that non-robots would have. In his mind, he sees that his friend was his only save place, he had to be comfortable around others. Now that she’s gone, he cannot handle the thought of being alone, much less having to stay away from the place he calls home.

Additionally, the viewer sees Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor and his friend as they try to find a way off the planet to somewhere safe. Luckily, they find a couple of traders that have a ship they can use to escape. The interesting thing is Andor, and his friend believe that the traders would turn them in instead of helping them when it is the opposite. They find that the traders hate the empire and willingly help them get off world. This shows just how many people hate the empire and are willing to stand up to them no matter the cost to themselves.

Later into the episode, the viewer sees Genevieve O’Reilly’s Mon Mothma and her cousin Faye Marsay’s Vel Sartha as they discuss Mon’s decision to marry off her daughter as a result of her need for help with her plan to help fund the rebellion. By the look on her face the viewer can tell that she hates herself for doing this to her daughter. As a mother she wanted nothing more than for her to choose for herself who she wanted to marry. However, as a rebel leader she knows that it is necessary for everyone to be free of the empire. This shows that Mon Mothma is a person who is willing to sacrifice everything for what she believes in. Not to mention that she is in a hard position both as a parent and as a rebel leader. In the end she chose to be a leader setting the example of putting others before the needs of one’s own self.

At the end of the episode, the viewer sees how distraught Andor becomes as he is told about his adoptive mother passing away, prompting him to return for the funeral. In his mind, he knows attending would mean possibly getting captured by the empire once again, however, he doesn’t care as he is going to say his goodbyes to his adoptive mother no matter what due to his love for her. The interesting part about this is as Andor comes to this decision his friend talks about letting others know what happened at the prison. This gives Andor what looks like a spark of rebellion in his eyes which could lead to his eventual alignment with the rebellion.
