Amazon’s ‘Bosch’ Season Seven Episode Three Review: Bosch Doubles Down on Arson Case

Season seven episode three of Amazon’s Bosch, entitled ‘Sabes Demasiado,’ feels like it’s starting to get stuck in the weeds as it continues to set-up two criminal cases: a gang-related act of arson and a white-collar multi-million-dollar Ponzi scheme. All action has reached a plateau while Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver, Lost) struggles to build a case around the act of arson.

Over the last three episodes, Bosch’s partner Jerry Edgar (Jamie Hector, The Wire) has proven that he needs some serious therapy. The guy is losing his grip and honestly, he deserves to feel a little guilt after unethically killing a surrendered criminal at the end of season six. Brutal, right? Bosch is fed up and replaces Jerry with another detective during the interrogation of Gladys Rodríguez (Natalia Castellanos) aka ‘La Mayorista’ since Jerry was completely mentally absent while they were searching the suspect’s apartment. Pull yourself together, man!

This episode felt like it danced around a lot of the issues at hand without making much headway on either of the cases. The intertwining plots didn’t quite move forward, but to be fair, there’s a lot of new information to establish this season. Bosch was able to arrest La Mayorista for her alleged involvement in the arson case, but doesn’t have enough evidence to keep her behind bars for more than a weekend. It’s going to be interesting to see how La Mayorista and Bosch interact with each other throughout the rest of the season. She’s such a unique character: smug, intriguing, in-control, and definitely hiding something. Bosch’s tough, but so is she.

Meanwhile, Honey Chandler (Mimi Rogers, Austin Powers) keeps Vincent Franzen (Reed Diamond, Dollhouse), her white-collar crime client, hidden in a remote location while they build his case and try to keep him from getting any jail time. Between Bosch and Chandler, both of these cases are basically where they left off at the end of episode two and still leave the door open for pressing questions: Is the building management company the evil brains behind the arson crime? What will be Franzen’s punishment? We want answers!

Elsewhere in the LAPD office, everyone is fighting a battle of their own. Lt. Billets (Amy Aquino, ER) continues to search for the culprit that painted an anti-LGBT message on her car, and Chief Irving (Lance Reddick, The Wire) grows increasingly nervous that he won’t be voted for a second term as Mayor Lopez (Natalia Castellanos, Criminal Minds) tells the press that he is not doing enough to find the criminals behind the arson. Chief Irving needs to start making moves or he can say goodbye to his Chief days.

It feels like a serious development in one of the cases needs to happen soon to keep things rolling. Fortunately, the viewers received a little cliff hanger as Maddie (Madison Lintz, The Walking Dead) is seen being watched by a mysterious driver as she drops off materials at Franzen’s hideout. Who was secretly watching her?

The episode ends with Bosch receiving a phone call and looking concerned. Did someone tell him that something happened to Maddie? Was there a breakthrough in the case? This might be the heel turn the show needs to regain momentum.
