According to Deadline, Zuri Reed (National Treasure: Edge of History, Killer Among Us) will be joining the cast of Starz’s Power: Origins. Reed will play a regular role as Tasha, a younger version of the character originally played by Naturi Naughton in the original Power.
As per Deadline, Starz teased the spinoff prequel as “a fun, rambunctious exploration of a new time period in the ‘Power’ franchise.” The series will highlight “the unbridled audacity of young men on the rise, determined to become legends in the game.”
According to Deadline, the series focuses on the early years of the two lead characters from the mothership series. Characters that include James “Ghost” St. James played by Omari Hardwick (The Mother, Army of the Dead) and Tommy Egan played by Joseph Sikora (Reasonable Doubt, The Intruder). In the new series, the characters will be played by Spence Moore II and Charlie Mann, respectively. Kana Stark will be played by Mekai Curtis (Milo Murphy’s Law, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day), continuing his leading role in Raising Kanan. The new story will follow the trio as ambitious young entrepreneurs on the rise, determined to make their mark on the streets of New York City.
As per Deadline, joining Moore II, Mann and Curtis as new cast members in the franchise is Jason Dirden (American Soul, The Start of Dreams), reprising the role of Traymont Stinson from Raising Kanan; Jennifer Ferrin (The Cape, Hell On Wheels) as Tommy’s mom, Kate Egan; Lizzy DeClement (After Everything, Jamie Marks Is Dead) local Queens nurse, Jill Wexler; Lenny Platt (Very Good Girls, The Hot Zone) as finance bro, Lenny Seidell; Armani Gabriel (Blue Bloods, Have a nICE Day) as J-Boogs, one of Ghost and Tommy’s most trusted corner boys; and Everett Osborne (Burn Out, Chicago Fire) as NY Jets tight end, Omay Moreau.
According to Deadline, Reed’s credits include being a series regular on Disney+’s National Treasure: Edge of History and having a major recurring role on Showtime’s Flatbush Misdemeanors.
Power: Origins is scheduled to premiere in late 2026 or early 2027.
