Timing is everything, something the cast and crew of HBO’s hit show Euphoria found out earlier this year. As scripts for season two were being read and last minute adjustments to wardrobe were made, the show’s production was shut down due to COVID-19. With production indefinitely halted, everyone was left wondering when they would ever be able to step in front of or behind a camera again. The star of the show, Zendaya, (The Greatest Showman) revealed the possibility of a bridge episode with guest host Ben Platt (The Politician) on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Wednesday night via Entertainment Weekly.
Zendaya has stayed busy during the quarantine. She completed filming a movie with Euphoria creator Sam Levinson (Deep Water) where she did her own hair, make up, and wardrobe. Next on her agenda is shooting a new episode of Euphoria safely. She called this potential new episode a bridge episode according to Entertainment Weekly, saying to Platt, “So, we might end up doing a little bridge episode. I don’t really know how to describe it, but an episode that we can do with a limited amount of people in a safer environment that can, I don’t know, give people something.” The purpose of the bridge episode is to give viewers an episode to devour while they await the second season. The series was renewed for a sophomore season in July of last year with season one airing its final episode in August 2019.

The finale for the first season of Euphoria was a whirlwind. Zendaya portrays Rue, a high school student trying to stay clean after a stint in rehab. After struggling throughout the whole first season, Rue gives into temptation and begins taking drugs again. This is how Euphoria left off and the cast and audience have been itching for more ever since.
Euphoria was met with critical praise along with viewers falling in love with the many characters on the show. It’s a modern take on what it means to be a teenager in America, dealing with subjects such as body image, abortion, and drug use. Zendaya was especially praised for her performance as the narrator and lead Rue, being nominated for Best Actress in a Drama Series at the upcoming Emmy Awards. The future is still unknown for when the second season will begin filming, but Euphoria hopes to be able to film the transitional episode to quench fans undying thirst in the meantime.
