Black-ish season two is getting teen star Zendaya as a guest star.
Zendaya is an actresses, singer, and dancer known for her role on Disney’s Shake It Up and K.C. Undercover. Zendaya’s music career includes her hit single Replay. Now the talented 18 year old is moving to the ABC comedy Black-ish.
Black-ish stars Anthony Anderson as a father balancing his job as an advertising executive and raising his four kids. Anderson was nominated for an Emmy for his lead role on the show.
Zendaya will guest star as Rasheida. Rasheida is a friend of Zoey (Yara Shahidi), the oldest child in the family. Rasheida doesn’t have a father so she disagrees with Anderson’s Dre’s belief that fathers should be respected and heralded, according to Entertainment Weekly. It’s unclear if her role as a guest star will last for more than one episode.
Also to expect for season 2, is for the show to continue to push boundaries. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Anderson said that the first episode of the series will focus on the N-word and who has the right to say it if it should be said at all. After an incident where his youngest son says the word while singing along to song that uses it he faces being expelled for hate speech.
The second season will also tackle an episode on gun ownership. Anderson said that the creators of Black-ish, “pride [themselves] on dealing with topics and subject matter that are divisive. Because of that divisiveness, people are able to begin a dialogue that may make you change your perspective. Our show resonates with people because of that honesty.”
Black-ish returns to ABC this fall on September 23.
