Award-winning actor James Marsden, who is famously known for his work in films such as Hairspray and the animated movie The Boss Baby, has landed a lead role in Apple TV+’ series Your Friends & Neighbors. Created by Jonathan Tropper, Marsden will star alongside other familiar faces such as Jon Hamm (Black Mirror, Beirut), Olivia Munn (Buddy Games, Date Night) and Amanda Peet (The Ex, Melinda and Melinda). Reported exclusively by Deadline, the show was renewed in December 2024, and recently premiered its first season this week, on April 11.
The show’s plot focuses on a hedge fund manager (played by Jon Hamm), who must come to terms with his recent divorce. He finds himself nearing rock bottom, and resorts to stealing from affluently wealthy neighbors in the Westmont Village. His turn to crime uncovers dark secrets and affairs behind the walls of the wealthy homes, sending him into a dangerous downward spiral. Marsden’s character is reportedly set to be one of the wealthy neighbors, along with an introduction to a possible relationship with Munn’s character Samantha.
In the upcoming second season, Deadline’s article states Marsden is set to also star along some regulars in the series such as Hoon Lee (DMZ 01 FREE, Devil May Cry), Mark Tallman (Rise, Step Up 3D), Lena Hall (Inconvenient Interviews with Risa, The Graduates), Aimee Carrero (Hannah Montana, Elena of Avalor: The Secret Life of Sirenas), Eunice Bae (The Girl with the Lantern Heart), Isabel Gravitt (In Search of Fellini, Dead Sea), and Donovan Colan (Spirit Halloween: The Movie, Zoe). Following his casting in the series, Marsden will make regular appearances throughout the entire second season.
Alongside his casting for the series, Marsden is also filming Avengers: Doomsday, which is set to be released May 1, 2026, as well as his current wrap up of Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice, in which he will star alongside Vince Vaughan (Hacksaw Ridge, Be Cool. New episodes of the series will be released each week on Friday, while the second season currently films.
