Netflix is producing a third season of You. News of the new season is coming less than three weeks after the release of Season 2, which was just released on Netflix on Dec. 26th. Season 3 consists of 10 episodes and is going to premiere in 2021. The lead actors Penn Badgley and Victoria Pedretti are confirmed to return in their roles in the new season. More casting is expected to be announced at a later date.
Series creators Sera Gamble and Greg Berlanti are returning as executive producers and Gamble is also returning as showrunner. The show was originally developed by Gamble and Berlanti, the first two seasons are based on the books You and Hidden Bodies by Caroline Kepnes.
The series stars Penn Badgley as Joe Goldberg, a man who in season one would do anything to win the heart of a woman he meets when she comes into the New York City bookstore where he works. In season 2 of You, Joe Goldberg moves from New York to Los Angeles to escape his past, and starts over with a new identity. Fresh out of an intense relationship that ended in murder, he falls in love with a new woman, a woman named Love Quinn.
The series is being produced by Berlanti Productions with Warner Horizon Television. Season 3 of You will be the second season of the series to debut exclusively on Netflix. The first season originally aired on Lifetime before moving over to Netflix. You has received positive reviews from critics over both of its seasons. You’s second season ranked as one of Netflix’s most popular series in 2019. It also has a strong social media presence, the series trended on Twitter worldwide for hours on its December 26 release date.
