Deadline has confirmed that the recent Yellowstone spinoff, The Madison, will be adding the beloved Kurt Russell (Escape from New York, The Hateful Eight) to its already star-studded cast. Russel will take a recurring role next to his Tequila Sunrise co-star Michelle Pfeiffer. While an official release date has not been announced for the spinoff, it has been preemptively renewed for a second season. Reports suggest it will air next year.
According to Deadline, The Madison is one of many Yellowstone spin-offs in the works. They are all looking to bank on the original series’ wild success. Y: Marshalls is one of the spinoffs that will be airing on CBS. The show will follow Kayce Dutton, Luke Grimes (Fifty Shades of Grey, American Sniper), as he leaves behind the ranch life to join the U.S. Marshals in Montana. Another spinoff in the works is set to be carried on Paramount+ with the current working title of The Dutton Ranch. A prequel to the franchise, titled 1944, is also reportedly in the works, with another project, titled 6666, that has been in development but has now been put on hold indefinitely. This is presumably to gauge the success of the other spin-offs before production resumes.
Mxdwn previously reported that the series will be once again helmed by Taylor Sheridan. Paramount+’s higher-ups have praised Sheridan as the foundation of their streaming output. Sheridan is deeply involved in his work, as he runs the production hub in Texas and even pulls a Stan Lee cameoing as Travis Wheatley in the original series. It has yet to be seen if he will write himself a role in The Madison.
According to Uproxx, the plot for The Madison will be a “heartfelt study of grief and human connection following a New York City family in the Madison River valley of central Montana.
