According to Deadline, Showtime’s Yellowjackets drew 1.5 million total viewers during its premiere weekend based on comScore, Nielsen, and internal streaming data. Yellowjackets episodes became available on the Showtime app on Fridays before airing on the linear network Sundays. The data is gathered from that viewing period.
The second season finale of Yellowjackets falls just behind Dexter: New Blood as the second most-streamed original Showtime season finale ever.
The finale of Yellowjackets season one had garnered 1.3 million viewers across all platforms. Streaming was up 50% for season two and the finale was up by 7%.
Season two’s premiere received 2 million viewers across platforms in the first weekend and grew to 4 million the week after release. This was the highest viewership for a second installment that Showtime had seen in over 10 years.
Delayed viewing of the season finale will better show how the finale did as audiences catch up. It is common for a linear series to lose same-day viewers over the course of a season.
Season one of Yellowjackets averaged over 5 million viewers weekly across all platforms, earned a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, and received seven Emmy nominations. It was the second most-streamed Showtime series in history and was the highest-viewed freshman series on the network since Billions six years prior. It aired on November 14, 2021.
Yellowjackets is created by Bart Nickerson (Narcos, Dispatches from Elsewhere) and Ashley Lyle (Narcos: Mexico, The Originals) and stars Lauren Ambrose (Servant, Six Feet Under), Tawny Cypress (Remains, Unforgettable), Simone Kessell (Wellmania, Reckoning), Melanie Lynskey (The Last of Us, Two and a Half Men), Christina Ricci (Casper, Wednesday), Sophie Tatcher (The Book of Boba Fett, Prospect), Ella Purnell (Arcane, Sweetbitter), Liv Hewson (Santa Clarita Diet, Dramaworld), Sophie Néllisse (The Book Thief, The Kid Detective), Samantha Hanratty (Shameless, Skin in the Game), Steven Krueger (The Originals, Pretty Little Liars), Kevin Alves (Locke & Key, How to Build a Better Boy), Courtney Eaton (Gods of Egypt, Mad Max: Fury Road), and Warren Kole (Shades of Blue, Common Law).
Season two also featured Elijah Wood (Wilfred, Lord of the Rings: Return of the King) in a season long guest arc.
The series is executive produced by Nickerson, Lyle, Drew Comins (All the Old Knives, Blood & Oil), and Jonathan Lisco (K-Ville, Animal Kingdom).
