According to The Hollywood Reporter, William Shatner (Star Trek, The UnXplained) responded to online critique of Paramount+’s new Star Trek series. The comments came from the White House’s homeland security advisor, Stephen Miller
THR noted that Miller responded to a post from an End Wokeness X account that shared a clip from the new series, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. The clip featured actors Tricia Black (Small Achievable Goals, Wayward), Holly Hunter (Hurricanna, Big Mouth), and Gina Yashere (Strange Planet, Just for Laughs) with the comment, “Star Trek 2026…Beyond parody.” Miller stated, “Tragic. But it’s not too late for @paramountplus to save the franchise. Step 1: Reconcile with @WilliamShatner and give him total creative control.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Shatner jokingly responded to Miller’s post on X, agreeing that the fact Hunter’s character is wearing glasses, in the 32nd century, “is an abysmal oversight on the writers.” See the post from X below.

Shatner continued in his re-posting of Miller’s comment saying, “Also, @paramountplus needs to up the budget because I’m sure that a well oiled organization like Star fleet in the distant future could afford more than one pair of glasses for at least this hyperopic bridge crew. Do they pass the glasses around while piloting the ship? Shame on the line producers! That is what you meant, right> I am ready to assume command of the series! Call me!” via The Hollywood Reporter. Miller remained insistent that Shatner take control, posting, “not too late for Paramount to make amends with Shatner and save the franchise. Do it!”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Shatner originally played the role of Captain Kirk in the TV series, as well in subsequent films including the 1989 feature, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, which he directed. He would play the role again in 1994’s Star Trek: Generations, which saw his character die.
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, created by Gaia Violo (In From The Cold), recently premiered on Paramount+ and has already been renewed for a second season. The series follows a new class of future cadets under the tutelage of Hunter’s academy captain. New episodes arrive every Thursday on Paramount+.
