‘Who’s The Boss’ Sequel With Tony Danza And Alyssa Milano In Development

The popular 1980s sitcom Who’s The Boss will be getting a sequel film as the project has been picked up by Amazon Freevee for development, according to Deadline. The upcoming sequel will reunite Tony Danza (The Good Cop) and Alyssa Milano (Charmed), who both starred in the original sitcom as Tony and Samantha Micelli.

Deadline provided a description for the upcoming sequel: “Set 30 years after the events of the original series, the sequel will focus on former Major League Baseball player/retired housekeeper Tony Micelli (Danza) and his relationship with his daughter Samantha (Milano). She is now a single mother, living in the family house. In line with (Norman) Lear’s classic shows, the new comedy will explore generational differences, as well as opposing worldviews and parenting styles within the dynamic of a modern family in 2022,” the description read.

The Who’s The Boss sequel is being executive produced by Danza, Milano, Norman Lear (All In The Family), Brent Miller (American Masters), Dan Farah (Ready Player One), Mike Royce (Men Of A Certain Age), and Brigitte Muñoz-Liebowitz (People Of Earth), according to Deadline. Royce and Muñoz-Liebowitz will also write for the sequel. Sony Pictures Television, which owns the rights to the original series, will be the sequel’s studio. According to Deadline, Sony has been trying to put together a sequel for the show for the past two years.

This will be a reunion for Lear, Miller, Royce, and Muñoz-Liebowitz, who all worked together on the reimagined version of the 1970s and 80s sitcom, One Day At A Time, which ran from 2017-2020.

The original Who’s the Boss? ran for eight seasons and 196 episodes on ABC from 1984-92. The show drew in more than 30 million viewers and has been in syndication since the show ended. It starred Danza, Milano, Judith Light (Ugly Betty), Danny Pintauro (The Beniker Gang), and the late Katherine Helmond (Everybody Loves Raymond).
