‘What We Do In The Shadows’ Spinoff Series The CW’s ‘Wellington Paranormal’ Reveals Premiere Date

FX’s successful television adaptation What We Do In The Shadows has previously revealed the show and its story world carries an existing spinoff series to be released for The CW and HBO Max for American audiences. Announced as Wellington Paranormal, the upcoming supernatural comedy series will premiere on the network on Sunday, July 11 with the next day’s streaming release on HBO Max, according to Screen Rant. The unique supernatural story world is a product of Taika Waititi’s (Jojo Rabbit) 2014 mockumentary series under the same name as the FX original series that followed the adventures of four vampires that shared a flat in New Zealand.

In What We Do In The Shadows, the FX series separates itself from the New Zealand origins as described in the parent film. The FX series has currently aired two seasons and is preparing for the release of a third installment. The spinoff, Wellington Paranormal, witnesses a return for the universe to Wellington, New Zealand as the series will center on a pair of police officers operating in these strange circumstances. Wellington Paranormal previously premiered in 2018 for TVNZ 2 and has released season three starting in February 2021 which consisted of six half-hour episodes.

In total, Wellington Paranormal has released a total of 18 episodes over three seasons in addition to a Christmas Special in 2019 and 19 small COVID-19 announcements during the initial stages of quarantine during the pandemic. The series features the main cast that includes Karen O’Leary (The Breaker Upperers) as Officer O’Leary, Mike Minogue (Hunt For The Wilderpeople) as Officer Kyle Minogue, and Maaka Pohatu (Two Little Boys) as Sergeant Ruawai Maaka. Similar to What We Do In The Shadows, the spinoff was created by Waititi and Jemaine Clement (Rio, Men in Black 3).
