According to FX, the network has placed an order for the comedy series What We Do in the Shadows to premiere sometimes in spring 2019. The show will be based on the classic cult film of the same name.
The story follows three vampires (Viago, Deacon, and Vladislav) who have been roommates for hundreds of years. The trio attempt to overcome the obstacle of being immortal vampires who must feast on human blood. They struggle to keep up with human appearances, paying rent, keeping up with the chore wheel, trying to get into nightclubs, and overcoming conflicts between themselves. “’What We Do in the Shadows’ only gets better with age thanks to this brilliant adaptation for television by co-creators Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi,” said FX’s co-president of original programming Nick Grad. “Their feature version was a hilarious, fresh take on the mundanity of everyday life that even immortals must face. We are thankful to them, Paul Simms and Scott Rudin, and this amazing cast for taking us deeper into the shadows with this series.”
The first season will have 10 half-hour episodes. Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi, who are the co-creators of the film, will executive produce the series alongside Scott Rudin, Eli Bush, and Garrett Basch. Clement and Waititi are not starring in the show, they will be only serving as Executive Producers.
Set in New York City, What We Do in the Shadows will star Matt Berry, Kayvan Novak, Natasia Demetriou, and Harvey Guillen.
