The upcoming Marvel-Disney+ Halloween special is moving forward. According to CBR, the new special, starring Gael García Bernal (Bad Education, The Motorcycle Diaries), has officially begun production.
The Direct found an update to list of productions in Georgia. According to the list, the upcoming special will be under the working title, “Buzzcut”. Georgia has been the filming location for many MCU projects in recent years, so it is no surprise that the Halloween special will be filming there.
A MCU Halloween special was long in development since August. The special is set to feature the character Werwolf By Night, with a Latino actor being the lead. Plot details have been long under wraps, but it is expected that the series will continue a push for more supernatural characters to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The special is expected to start streaming this fall.
Bernal is expected to play the lead, but it is unknown which version of the character he will be playing. With a Latino lead, it is rumored that he will be playing the Jake Gomez iteration of the character. In the comics, Jake Gomez is a member of the Hopi tribe whose family is cursed with lycanthropy.
Laura Donelly (The Nevers) will co-star alongside Bernal, and she is rumored to play Nina Price, aka Vampire By Night. Composer Michael Giacchino (The Batman, Up) will make his directorial debut with this special.
Upon his announcement, it was also announced that the special will not be titled after Werewolf By Night. It is speculated the special may include other characters in the MCU and may usher in the Midnight Sons team from the comics. The Midnight Sons are a team of supernatural characters in the Marvel Universe. They have included characters such as Werewolf By Night, Doctor Strange, Blade, and Moon Knight.
The MCU Halloween special will come to Disney+ this fall.
