According to Deadline, Carra Patterson (The Arrangement, The Subject) and Wendell Pierce (Clemency, It Could Happen to You) have been cast as leads alongside Carrie Preston (Claws, True Blood) in Elsbeth drama series pilot on CBS. Elsbeth is a spin-off of The Good Wife and The Good Fight created by Robert and Michelle King (Braindead, Injustice), who will be executive producing the series along with Liz Glotzer (Sibling Rivalry, The Rewrite). The three actors make up the series regular cast for the pilot episode.
Elsbeth will follow Patterson’s character Elsbeth Tascion as a member of the NYPD after her successful career in Chicago, using her perspective to make astute observations and track down criminals. Elsbeth was first introduced on The Good Wife and appeared on The Good Fight.
Pierce will play NYPD’s charismatic and experienced Captain Wagner and Patterson will play a stoic and ethical NYPD officer, Kaya Blanke, who is used to being overlooked by her fellow officers.
Both Pierce and Patterson have drama and comedy experience which makes them a good match for the King’s franchise, with Elsbeth being one of its most popular comedic characters.
Pierce has worked on many hit series such as The Wire, Treme, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, Suits, Accussed, and The Odd Couple. He recently reprised his role of Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman for a limited engagement on Broadway last year. He was nominated for a Laurence Oliver Award fir Best Actor in a Play in London for the West End production.
Recently, Patterson was on the King’s Paramount+ drama series Evil as a guest star and on Disney+’s Turner & Hooch as a series regular. She will be in the upcoming Netflix/Higher Ground movie Rustin which is directed by George C. Wolfe (The Wild Party, Spunk) and stars Chris Rock (Madagascar, Everybody Hates Chris), Audra McDonald (Private Practice, Annie), and Colman Domingo (Fear The Walking Dead, Candyman).
The Good Wife aired on CBS on September 22, 2009 and finished on May 8, 2016. The Good Fight aired on February 19, 2017 and is still airing.
