Wednesdays Are the New Fridays As Disney+ Shifts Original Series Release Schedule

It appears Loki’s nexus event has even ruptured changes over at Disney+. Deadline reports the streaming service has opted to change the release date for all future original series from Fridays to Wednesdays. Following the success of Marvel’s latest hero series premiere, the platform is banking on repeating the same formula for all scripted, unscripted and animated shows. The new schedule is outlined below.

Monsters at Work: July 2, 2021 to July 7, 2021
Turner & Hooch: July 16, 2021 to July 21, 2021
Behind the Attraction: July 16, 2021 to July 21, 2021
Chip ‘n’ Dale: Park Life: July 23, 2021 to July 28, 2021
Turning the Tables with Robin Roberts: July 30, 2021 to July 28, 2021
The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse: July 30, 2021 to July 28, 2021
Growing Up Animal: August 20, 2021 to August 18, 2021
Short Circuit: July 30, 2021 to August 4, 2021 via Deadline

According to Deadline, Michael Waldron’s (Heels, Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of MadnessLoki was originally set to premiere on Friday, June 11. It would have followed the pattern of Marvel’s two previous series, WandaVision and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. However, Loki’s first episode, “Glorious Purpose,” surpassed expectations becoming the platform’s most-watched episode ever.

Starring Tom Hiddleston (Thor, The Night Manager) as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s God of Mischief, Loki follows the adopted Asgardian form a strange alliance with the Time Variance Authority to chase a murderous suspect from disrupting the sacred timeline. Things become complicated when the assailant’s identity is revealed. The series also stars Owen Wilson (Marley & Me, Wedding Crashers), Gugu-Mbatha Raw (The Morning Show, Fast Color), Wunmi Mosaku (His House, Luther) and Sophia Di Martino (Flowers, Yesterday).

Disney+ isn’t foreign to Wednesday premieres. The newest animated offering from the Star Wars universe, The Bad Batchdebuted its first season on May 4, or Star Wars Day. With this shift, Marvel fans can expect the future slate of MCU series to also premiere mid-week. The platform has both Hawkeye and Ms. Marvel set for later this year, with She-Hulk and Moon Knight to follow.

According to Deadline, this restructuring will not affect the release of original films on the streamer. All movies will continue to release on Fridays.
