According to Comicbook, Wednesday is returning to Netflix, and the second season is rumored to become the biggest production done in Ireland. The series focuses on the titled character, played by Jenna Ortega (Scream), as she navigates through her years of Nevermore High while dealing with the mystery of the supernatural. The second season will surely take place after the events of the finale, in which Wednesday goes on vacation with her family but receives a mysterious text message from an unknown sender containing pictures of her and her friends.
As per Variety, Irish Prime Minister Taoiseach Simon Harris has visited and met the series showrunners Alfred Gough (I Am Number Four) and Miles Millar (The Shannara Chronicles), along with the cast. Harris said, “I’m delighted to see Ireland continues to be chosen as a location to film series and movies which supports our economy, creates jobs, showcases our creative talents and promotes our country on a global stage.”
According to Comicbook, along with Ortega, returning characters will include Catherine Zeta-Jones (The Legend of Zorro), Emma Myers (Family Switch), Joy Sunday (The Beta Test), Hunter Doohan (Soundwave) and Moosa Mostafa (The Last Bus), as well as many others. Unfortunately, due to reports of sexual assault stated back in 2023, Percy Hynes White (The Gifted) will not return to play Xavier Thorpe.
“We’ve decided we want to lean into the horror aspect of the show a little bit more,” Ortega said via Comicbook. “Because it is so lighthearted, and a show like this with vampires and werewolves and superpowers, you don’t want to take yourself too seriously.” She has taken the producer role within the series, and says that season two will lead away from the romance and focus more on the horror and grim elements.”
The second season will surely answer the mystery behind the cryptic messages and explore Nevemore’s secret more deeply. While waiting for further in-depth coverage of the upcoming season, the first one is available to rewatch and stream on Netflix.
