According to Variety, the coming-of-age comedy-mystery show Wednesday has reached over one billion hours of views in less than a month, becoming the third title on Netflix to do so, after Squid Game (HoYeon Jung, Lee Jung-jae) and Stranger Things (Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard) Season Four.
Wednesday, created by Tim Burton (The Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride), stars Jenna Ortega (The Fallout, You) as Wednesday Addams from the classic cartoon and film franchise The Addams Family. The hit show broke a record with 341.23 million hours viewed in its first week for any English-language series, overpassing Stranger Things’ 335 million hours but falling short of Squid Game’s 571.8 million hours. It was top ten in 93 countries and number one in 83 of them, via Deadline.
Wednesday surpassed Ryan Murphy’s (American Horror Story, The Watcher) thriller series, Dahmer, for the number two most popular English-language show on the streaming platform. According to Variety, Netflix bases its Most Popular list on the views a show receives during the first month of its release. Dahmer reached a total of 856.2 million hours compared to Wednesday, which reached 269.7 million hours from December 5th to 11th alone and still has one more week to go. Stranger Things remains at the top of the list, but that could be attributed to its extra three seasons and longer episodes.
Harry & Meghan, which premiered this past Thursday, has become the platform’s biggest documentary debut with a total of three hour-long episodes. In the first four days of its release, it racked up 81.6 million hours of views. The last three episodes of the doc will premiere this Thursday, December 15th at 3 a.m. eastern time.
