

The novel We Were Liars by E. Lockhart (Genuine Fraud, Family of Liars) is adapted for television by Prime. According to a recent Prime press release, the series will be available to stream starting June 18.
The press release outlined the series premise. Set against the backdrop of a secluded New England island, We Were Liars centers on seventeen year old Cadence Sinclair Eastman and her close group of friends, known as the Liars. Each summer, the privileged Sinclair family gathers on the private estate, owned by Eastman’s grandfather. When an accident leaves Cadence reeling, the world begins to fracture, and secrets among the Liars and her family start to surface.
The cast for We Were Liars includes Caitlin FitzGerald (Masters of Sex, Succession) who stars as Penny Sinclair, joined by Emily Alyn Lind (Doctor Sleep, Gossip Girl) as Cadence Sinclair Eastman, Shubham Maheshwari (Wedding Season, Never Have I Ever) as Gat Patil, and Esther McGregor (The Last Bus, The Devil’s Hour) as Mirren Sinclair Sheffield. Joseph Zada (Rabbit Hole, Hudson & Rex) appears as Johnny Sinclair Dennis, alongside Mamie Gummer (The Good Wife, True Detective) as Carrie Sinclair, Candice King (The Vampire Diaries, After We Collided) as Bess Sinclair, Rahul Kohli (The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass) as Ed Patil and David Morse (The Green Mile, The Hurt Locker) as Harris Sinclair.
The series comes from co-showrunners Julie Plec (The Vampire Diaries, Legacies) and Carina Adly MacKenzie (Roswell, New Mexico, The Originals), who both serve as writers and executive producers. Additional executive producers include Emily Cummins (The Endgame, Vampire Academy) of My So-Called Company and Lockhart, author of the original novel. The adaptation is a collaboration between Universal Television, part of Universal Studio Group, and Amazon MGM Studios.
The first season of the series will be eight episodes, and the entire season will be available for streaming on debut.
